Default C.A.T. Power FP with ARP FP bolt- shimming FP questions

so ive got a new C.A.T. Power SFI Flexplate and new ARP ls1 flexplate bolts and the shoulder of the arp bolts is hitting the threads of the crank before the flexplate is tight.

The flexplate needs to be shimmed but it needs a lot, give or take im calling it at .060 or .080

TCI and jegs both have .030 shims but im not crazy about stacking 3 or 4 shims in there because i spin the motor to 7k, do the math thats over 100 revolutions per second and the forces involved at that speed are unimaginable.

1. has anybody tried this setup? and how did it turn out?
2. has anybody had to shim the FP this far?
3. where can i get thicker shims?
4. anybody run into this problem with the ARP bolts?

The Cat is a direct replacement physically to the stocker except its a little thicker. Im not understanding why you are saying it needs to be shimmed?? Do the ARP bolts match in size and length to the stockers?

Yes the ARP bolts match pefectly EXCEPT they are shouldered, the stockers are not. stockers hold the new plate on just fine.
The shoulder of the ARP's sticks out beyond the the flexplate and hits the threads of the crankshaft and stops with the flexplate still loose.

Im planning on calling ARP about it on monday but i figured id see if its happened to anybody else.

you could use a hardened washer under the bolt head, as long as it cleared the converter-if you go on ARP's website, they have the bolts and specs, sizes, etc-see how yours match up to the specs, make sure you dont have a converter bolt-i just went thru their charts looking for a 7/16 bolt for my 4l80e spacer/flexplate to stroker crank

Just got off the phone with ARP and ive got Flywheel bolts not Flexplate bolts. The shoulder on these bolts is longer.

Flexplate Bolts are 244-2901
Flywheel bolts are 330-2802

and they are not interchangeable. funny enough, my parts distributor figured out the same thing this morning so when i called him to tell him he said yep thats what i just realized lol.

a little off subject, but I have this flexplate and only did a mock up fit. I didnt like how the I.D of the center hole was a tad bigger then the O.D. of the crank. Is yours slightly loose like this? I noticed a spot for a pin for alignment and Im thinking this is mandatory with the sloppy fitment.

how much bigger? i dont really remember how loose the stocker was but i just put them together on the floor and the id of the two pieces looks identical.

the ls being an internally balanced motor im thinkin that if you use the alignment pin youll have to run a dampner or externally balance the rotating assembley.

Thats a darn good question though ill find out tomorrow
