another 4L65E question PLEASE HELP
I'm wondering what it will take to make a 4L65E work in a 98 F-body.....I know the tailhousing has to be swapped off the old tranny to allow the torque arm to bolt up.....IS THIS ALL??? if i swap tailhousings can i bolt in the 65 and have it work right????

According the article in HPP months ago it is straight bolt in. (Oct 2003)
"All the improvements made are internal, so the 4L65-E will bolt up to any vehicle originally equipped with a 4L60-E."

I thought about getting one when my second tranny broke cause I can get the 4l65e for 1600.00 but for the 750.00 in mod to my tranny it will hold tons more than any 4l65e can think of.

I believe that the 4L65E has a different manual shift set-up than the 4L60Es, instead of just the little bracket and arm, it has a large black plastic housing. I don't know what the deal is with that.
Otherwise, other than the tail housing, it should be identical to the 4L60E. The bellhousing should be universal for the LS1.
If worse comes to worse, if you can't get it fit in your car, you can pull all of the guts, and stuff them in your 4L60E, I know for a fact that internally, everything is interchangeable. I just got done rebuilding my transmission, and I installed some 4L65E parts.
Also, an FYI, according to an article in Super Chevy, and GM Powertrain's website, the 4L65E has higher hp and torque ratings, BUT the shift points are also dropped to 5600 rpm, from 6100, which may be why the rating was increased, so I don't know what the actual rating would be at 6100rpm......

modified the new 4L65 tonite. the shift linkage swaps out of a regular 4L60 in a few minutes and the tailhousing is just 6 bolts and a fresh seal. I also added a B+M extra deep, finned tranny pan for extra cooling (3 quarts over 4L60 pan, 1 quart over 4L65 deep pan). tranny should be in the car in a day or two....bout damn time....car has been down nearly a month now. wish me luck with this thing.

Yes the 60e and 65e are identical for the purpose of swapping other than the mentioned shift linkage since they only came out in trucks and GTOs .
The 65e is just slightly stronger than the 60e but still has the same major weak points nearly untouched.
One think to note unless it came out of a GTO it make not have the corvette servo like the F body so you may want to swap it over from your F body.
A built 60e is still however way stronger than a stock 65e

LOL Look at when this thread started. I have actually read posts were guys are asking if a C5 corvette trans will fit in their fbody! Just clarifying your statement of "only came out in trucks and GTOs ". No problem it's cool. The funny part of this thread is the last post, up until today, was 12-09-2003 06:31 AM. DeepV is doing his homework and that's good. Not to mention when this thread was originally posted, the 04 GTO was just coming back out and the 65 trans I believe was not installed until 05 models. I was actually just adding to what you had posted. No problems. Vince
