Default Transmission Ventilation Tube/Rubber hose (4L60E)

So... I got my engine and transmission back in my car only to discover that I had forgotten to re-attach the rubber hose that connects to the ventilation tube coming out of the top of the transmission behind the bell housing. I know where it is but can't get my hands up in there to put it back on. I guess my question is, how important is the rubber hose? Can I just leave it off? Does anyone have any tips on how to get it back on? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Odd, my 93' didnt have a hose running to the motor, just a 3" plastic piece from the case is all.

It's only there to vent off excess fluid if you overfill (that's why theres gunk all over your torque arm). If you do overfill by just a little it will spurt out of the little tube and get on your tunnel, or the trans, or the exhaust, or the driveshaft, but it won't really damage anything. The entire undercarriage gets wet all the time, a little trans fluid won't hurt.
