In my experience with all my friends, whoever gets a 3600 stall always wants to go bigger. Those with the 4000 love it and are glad they didn't get the 3600.
ok was just wondering cause i'm goin to do a swap in my car m6 to a4 and was goin to go with 3;73, 4000stall and still be my daily driver and stuff i was just wondering if every1 left at the same rpm's just takin off easy like in town ridin around

Well, you already have a 3.42, so I would say def go with the 4000, you will not be dissapointed, the 3.73 will just make you even more happy.

I was going to take a cruise real quick and record my RPM's while driving, but it just started to rain. I will try and do that when I get a chance then post it up. But, IMO, if your going to spend that much money on a performance mod, go big or go home. Plus it's a lock up, so when you drive over 45 (or whatever you set it to) it's going to drive like a stock converter.

I have owned a Yank SS3600 and a Yank PT4000. I use to DD with the Yank SS3600 and I liked it alot because it was so tight. The PT4000 I really wouldn't want to DD with, too loose and the car is so damn loud with it. I wanted track times so that's why the switch.

^^ I have a friend with a boltons LS1 TA with the SS3600, I had a boltons LS1 camaro at the time with a PT4000. Shortly after installing the 3600 he wished he would have gone with a 4000, and plans to when the trans takes a dump.

The SS series is much tighter on the bottom end, while losing some trap speed. The opposite is true for the PT. A friend of mine was going 1.60 60fts with only a tune, !cats, lid, and cutout on an SS4000. My car was going 1.69s on the PT4000 with boltons and a little more conservative tune... but my trap speed was also several mph faster.

I personally like the PT series much more than the SS. It's much friendlier on the street with the slightly softer launches (not as much tire spin) and you get a better top end.

In my friends boltons SS3600 car you can barely tell it has a stall untill you're wide open, I like the "loose" feeling of a bigger stall

the difference is going to be in how loose the converter is for dd matters, a tighter 4000 would be fine imo...i have a custom built 3800 that feels way smaller then my loose *** old fuddle 3600 was because its tighter....

if you are planning to run h/c in the future and no nitrous i would recommend a 4000, and FTI makes a great converter...

i have a 3600 but can definately see where people would want to go bigger...once you get use to it it is pretty mild.

This thread was exactly what I needed . I was going to order a 3600 stall ,But after reading this .I think Im doing a 4000 stall . A lot of people think its way to much for my nearly stock Z. But it seems to produce some serious 60 ft times .

Well I'm set on getting a 4k stall, but are you guys mostly on stock trannys or did you do a built tranny and stall at same time. I can afford the stall but not both at the same time. Would I be fine with a stall and a tranny cooler on a 48k mile tranny? Don't want to buy one and then have to replace the transmission a year later.

i have 50 on my tranny and my ss4000 for 6k miles no problems yet.. just get a good cooler and you should be fine for a while.. but probably plan on getting a built tranny in the future..

I'll update on a few inquiries.

I have 108K on my Transmission. Had my ss4000 for about 8K miles 2 1/2 years. I cut 1.58 60fts on a 75 shot of nitrous (11.79), 1.62's on motor and run (12.33). Change the fluid every 2K miles (I don't daily drive this so it's bout 1-2 times a year - fluid is cheap preventative maintenence). Change the filter every other fluid change. I have the big B&M cooler.
