Default Yet again, looks like i did serious damage to a tranny

Me and transmissions have never agreed with each other, im 23 right now and i think this is like the 6th or 7th time ive had a major trans failure, 3 of those times smoked the whole thing.

Combo is a full bolt-ons minus LT's 98 ls1 camaro, mild weight reduction.
Performabuilt lvl 2 with like 3500 miles on it
Circle D stage 2 2C installed with trans
3.42 gear
Frost Tune
stock rubber trans mount

I was going to work last night around 5:15, turned onto Brittmoore off of Tanner and started to get on it as i turned. Car got strait and i laid into it about halfway through 1st, hit 2nd, pullin pullin....

look down, 6400rpm, gonna hit 3rd, CLANK, motor hit the limiter 3 times. I lifted my foot and the car coasted down through 2nd. it never got into 3rd or even hit it for a second.

motor was warmed up, trans temp was 130-140 measured at the pressure port, been driving 15 minutes and several miles, plenty of stop and go so i know it was warmed up, i looked ahead of time before i hammered it. car was in OD.

Now, with the stick in OD or D theres no movement at all, motor just revs. pull the stick into 2 or 1 and it jumps like it always does, i didnt try reverse as i did a qwick nut check and killed it, not wanting to cycle debris through the system. Shifter moves like normal, car sounds normal, no dents in the pan, no leaks, etc.

Im not pointing any fingers, i have no clue what happened, hell i just got home from work. Looking for input as to what went wrong and what needs to be done. I left the car at work with specific instructions not to start it. Really sucks cuz i just bought a moser 12 bolt and a new Turbo, now i gotta fix the damn thing first.

Input?

Ive refrained from asking this question till i calmed down about the whole thing, im trying to be as civil as possible.

Frank, Why did a 700whp capable transmission fold behind a 350whp ls1?

Well fact is sometimes parts do fail reguardless of what they are unfortunatley but You car has the best input sprag avaiable I am aware of the borg/warner 29 element dual cage and the same sprag thats in our cars and even heavy trucks doing 9s and 10s and 11s in the 1/4 but occcasionally a part regadrless still gives up. As for specifically why yours failed i do not know till we see it and even then the why might be hard to say. Could be the part was weak. Could be just the right amount of torque hit at a certain time to break it under just the right conditions lockup perhaps didnt disengage in time during and upshift or downshift many possibilites. But luckily its a rare occurence and in most cases i have seen was related to a rear end failure or spinning with a sudden traction. Not to say thats what happened in your case but as I mentioned there is no way to know sometimes. What happened to the previous 5 or 6 trans before you got the one you have from us would be interesting to know also and perhaps helpfull in determining the cause.

(Edit missunderstood post multiple trans failures were in multiple cars with different type trans)

Interesting why would the thread turn bad? It was a simple parts failure out of warranty unfortunatley but which we have the restore policy for , The other trans he mentioned in the post were from other cars and a few were th350s strange unrelated to this trans or this car from my understanding. Just alotta bad luck

well to both of you guys Im really really unhappy with the situation, and it does come to mind how new and overbuilt the trans is for this to happen, BUT bashing Frank and Performabuilt will get me nowhere and theyre reputation is very good. Then on top of that is my track record with trannys lol.

yes this is the second trans in this car, the previous was the bone stock original 4l60e with 132k on it, it lost the 3/4 clutch pak, no suprise there. all the previous tranny failures were other trans and other vehicles

and if this thread goes bad ill be super pissed because i plan to use it to help my current situation, going bad will not help anything or anybody.

Let me know what you find I keep records of all failures and when possible any thing that could be done in the future to avoid them.

Sounds like some seriously bad luck, I hope you are able to figure out what caused the problem so it can be prevented in the future.

well no pics to be reported, it was a pretty simple deal, the input sprag folded up and had to be replaced, along with the race. tranny was flushed, 500 bucks later the car is back on the road.

for 3 ******* days.

yesterday evening on my way to work 1st gear let go with a loud metallic CRUNCH. fantastic.

Unbelievable man. This thread reminds me of how I used to break T-5s in my old stock Fox-body. Then I bought a Tremec and never broke one. Might be time to think about a TH400 or 4L80E...
