As with all things in life you generaly get what you pay for. I would not believe that the 400 dollar converter has a billet cover or lock up piston. Yank,Circle D, Vig, and ourselves use billet covers with oversized clutches as well as furnace brazed fins, hardened hubs, etc. You will not find this in the cheaper lines of converters. We all do this for durability. If you save 300 today and the cheaper converter wipes out your trans then your spending 2000.00 tommorrow.

This is certainly the case with converters. The converter and the trans share fluid, so if the former blows it will take the latter with it like FTI said. I wonder if your friend intends to skimp on the trans cooler as well.

If it's the Monster that sells on eBay located in Florida, I'd suggest staying away. My experience with them was definitely not a good one. Others may have a different opinion, but that's definitely mine. I'm a Circle-D guy, and love my converter more than any other mod on my car. To me, the converter is the single piece of the puzzle that can make your car an animal, or a chia pet. Stock car + stock converter = fun and somewhat quick. Stock car + kick *** converter = a blast and tire roasting animal

Based on what I've read on here... you can't go wrong with ANY of the sponsors converters. Good luck.

Definitely if you can afford it go with a sponsor. To be honest I bought a Monster 3,200 stall and I'm having another shop re-stall it and have it built with specifications similar to the sponsor stalls. That thing f*cked my transmission and I would never go with it again.

X2 I'm with Black99CamaroSS. You do get what you pay for, I have seen what happens when you try to save. Dont get me wrong I am all for a deal but a Converter is one thing you dont wanna go cheap on.

I personally went with a UCC 10", it was made for my car, weight, gears, & turbo size. I have a friend that runs true 10.5 with one of Lenny's converters and its dead on (he runs 8.60's @ 161) "street car".
