Default how much should a trans pump install cost

my mechanic just called me and said he had to install a new trans pump. so how much do you think it should cost to have the trans pulled and a pump put in and the trans put back in????included would be the cost of labor, pump and trans fluid. the one thing i did not like is he put in a good used pump and not a re-built pump. he said its gonna cost me $475.00 to pick the car up. is this a fair price??

I think so. I paid $300 for it but I took my tranny in to them! So they're doing the same AND removing and reinstalling it. They have to do quite a bit of work, pay for fluid ($40 ish), gasket and filter ($10) and the pump parts ($50ish). SO you're only paying $315 for labor really. I think you got a decent deal, no reason to be upset. Next time remove it yourself and I bet they charge you less than $150.

Oh yeah...there will be a next time. Unfortunately you and I are having similar problems.

That is a very good deal.. They did all the work... R&R on the Trans itself is at least $300.00.

A 4l65 pump is a lot more than $100. The pump rotor and ring and spring and vanes is about $55, but a new pump is about $400. I'd love to get a new pump for that price.

Yessir you got a great deal.

The standard rate to remove and reinstall an automatic transmission is $500.00 and up at any transmission repair shop.
So you got a great deal in that aspect.
