All autos use a flexplate but some people refer to them as a flywheel.

Auto=flexplate
manual=flywheel

The flex plate is basically a heavy gauge sheet metal disc (typically balanced) with a ring of teeth welded on, around the perimeter for starting.

A flywheel is a heavy chunk of typically cast metal that acts as the contact surface of the manual clutch similar to a brake rotor, but also has the teeth around the perimeter for starting the car.

Kind of a crued answer but I think it works.

Another common name for the flexplate is a "mating ring".

i think theyalso offer the a flex plate but i think what their tring to say is your car has a flex plate instead of a flywheel so you would wanna order a new flex plate not a new fly wheel...... keep in mind the install is gonna cost a few bux for that .. unless youve done everything else why dont you do a cam or some headders or something less labor intensive thats gonna be big $$ for little gain form what i hear

I would not purchase the 2001 & 2002 flexplates, they are thinner, and have a tendency to crack, Here is the ticket: Go to the top right blue column and click on "SFI Flexplates"

i agree with jpr, spend your money elsewhere.....but if your gonna yank the trans get a higher stall converter and you wont need the extra horsepower to go faster.

the lighter flexplate will allow your engine to spin quicker, just do both
