Cooler Hook-up
I'm just wondering, "do you hook up an auxiliary trans cooler in conjunction with the radiator or do you run the trans cooler by itself to the trans? I have a Perma-Cool with 1000cfm. fan kit. Thanks.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. Is there a preference as to go through the radiator first then the cooler or vice versa?

Ide say just run threw a trans cooler .But then again i had a bad rad that leaked or mixed tranny fluid and coolant together inside my rad a few years ago which totally ruined my brand new Rossler (stage 3) 4L60 and all of my coolant hoses. I run mine now threw 2 BMR coolers mounted on my front air dam and it stays at 160 all day long (Even is the hot summer months)Its just something that can happen to ruin your year i guess .I always felt its better to keep the 2 systems seprate if at all possible because that way NOMATTER WHAT,one cant effect the other if something were to happen. Plus, its always easyer to just change out tranny coolers in the event of a blown tranny verses trying to remove and clean your rad of tranny debrie or F.O.D

Most engines run between 180*-210*. Run only the cooler, especially if you have a stall converter. You only need to run in conjunction if it is a year round vehicle as the engine heat will heat the trans fluid faster in the winter. The cooler alone will run 20*-30* cooler than with the engine coolant in the radiator. This arguement has been going on for over 40 years.

Running the fluid through the radiator will heat your fluid...contrary to what most of us are trying to achieve. If it is a year-round vehicle (especially in the nothern states) you can run both. If it is a summer only vehicle then use the external cooler only.

Good info. I just bought a 24,000 GVW B&M Supercooler along with a SS4000 stall but have yet to put anything in yet. I plan on running the trans cooler "dope style" and after what I've read in here, just using the cooler and not the radiator cooler.

I run a B&M 24K mounted dope style, then a large Hayden cooler mounted on my radiator. I also have a SLP fan switch that when turned on high will drop the temps another ~10 degrees because of the air being pulled through the cooler. With my PT4400 and my Circle D 5000, my cruising temps are roughly 150* and my stop-and-go temps are around 180*.

this is the tranny cooler ill be running without rad. Its for my new ss4k stall . wanted to do as big as possible. i want to bypass rad for simplicity and maybe it will be easyer on my tranmission fluid pump.
