Default Powerglide or not?

What do you guys think about me putting in a powerglide with a brake? Car weighs in the neighborhood of 3550-3650lbs. I'll be running either a 4.30 or 4.56 gear. I have a 1.80 straightcut gear for it. Car made 494RWHP and 467RWTQ through the 65E and 4200 Circle D and 9". Made 663RWHP and 675RWTQ on a 150shot.

Or should I just go TH400?

I'm leaning more towards the track than a street car so I'm not in the least bit worried about driveability.

I've heard the TH400 would put done better ET's but have heard viceversa about a Powerglide.

It really depends. There is a guy with a turbo Monaro(GTO) in Australia that went from a TH400 to a Glide in a 4000lb car and went faster. So I would say try it. Give Greg at FTI a call and see what he thinks.

I usually call up BTE since I've gone with them for all of the stuff I used in the dragster. The guy that has been building our transmissions sine the late 70's is a dealer for BTE and apparently they said my car would love a powerglide, but I was looking for some offhand experience. I'll probablt end up going powerglide and try it out .

I love powerglides. Nothing like dropping it into low on the freeway, lol. Two speeds. Fast and Faster. Once I'm done setting the suspension up in my GTO a powerglide is in my future as well.

Do it! I have always run a glide in my Chevelle street car and loved it. Now I am swaping in a 6.0 and I am keeping the glide. To me it's an easy choice. Powerglide=softer on the tires, less parts, light weight, takes very little HP to run, super strong, and with the right converter it will keep your RPMs where they need to be for longer than a three speed. Im not going to say it is the most exciting thing to drive around with but I REALLY like seeing headlights in my rearview!

With the weight of your car I would strongly recommend an after market case if your going Power glide.

It'll have a JW Bellhousing. It's gonna be a top of the line powerglide when it gets built, thats for sure. Roller bearing tailhousing and all the goodies
