th350 build
So if you were going to build a stock th350 what would you purchase to put in it. I picked up one for cheap and looking to build it up. Car should be making 400 on motor and 550 on spray. what transbrake, what v/b, what other things to upgrade. I have someone rebuilding it for cheap just have to bring the parts. Tranny was taken out a car with 6 passes on it and didnt have any issues and already has a shift kit in it. Looking for a manual reverse vb also.

make sure you got a th-375b, (thats a th-350 with 5 clutchs in 1,2 3 gears). the std th 350 oly holds 4 per grear. u can have .100 cut off of each piston to fit that extra clutch and steel.

Not true any V8 350 has 5 low-reverse 5 foward 4 direct 3 intermediate. The only piston hat needs to be cut is direct to get 5. There has never been any 350 or 375 that came with 5 frictions in 2nd.

sorry i was just going by the cltuch packs from rear to front, but i know that not all 350s had 5 l/r 5 f, i have seen and pulled apart many that have had only 4. not blowin smoke; until my fam retired from the tranny bizz in des moines ia we built about 90% of the trannys in ia and the surrounding states

TH350's typically have 5 low/reverse, 5 forward, 4 direct, and 3 intermediate clutches.
Many 6 cylinder TH350's came with fewer clutches.
5,4,4,2 as I recall.
You typically machine approximately .160" off the direct piston to get the additional friction and steel in the drum.
There were some Th350s (TH375B and others) that had 5 direct frictions. There was at one time a GM part number available for the 5 clutch piston.
In any case, it takes about 30 seconds to machine the clutch piston.
4 clutches in the direct will survive 700+ HP in as properly prepped TH350, even automatic shifting
