Tranny cooler ???
I have a built 4l60e with a Yank SS 4000. Should i get a tranny cooler or is the stock on in the radiator good enough ? ? What would be the difference. thanks

YES...you should get a tranny cooler.
If you don't drive your car in the winter then don't use the radiator cooler at all.
Your tranny will live considerably longer with cooler temps.

My personal opinion, if you are going to mount it to the radiator, is a large 3/4".
I am planning to use the Flex-a-lite 4126.
I don't like the extra leverage of a 1 1/2" hanging off the radiator tubes.

Big converters that have a high stall slip a ton at low speeds and heats the hell out of the fluid. A nice sized inline cooler will bring down temperatures about 20-30 degrees cruising. Well worth it!! Run it inline from Trans, to Stock cooler, To AUX cooler, Back to trans.

pate i would get between a 15k to 25k cooler. ive heard mixed emotions about running the stock cooler with the Aux cooler. They say the stock one will just help it cool down more but the coolent is also heating the tranny fluid up. As just running the Aux cooler wont be heated up by the coolent. Up to you what you wanna do.
btw im good friends with scott and run the same stall as you ss4000 but in a lt1

Im running a Performabuilt Level 2, and their 4000 stall, and im running just an aux cooler without any issues at all. Simpler connection, with less possible leak points.
Have you tried getting some fine sand paper, and lightly scuffing the hard line, where your hose attaches? it may help.

I know I saw a tranny pan that had tubes for air to pass through the tranny pan or with fins to keep the tranny fluid cooler too.
Here is a link to one right now.

You should also used inverted flares to help minimize the leaks of tranny fluid for your tranny lines.

is it a bad idea to drive with one in the winter? my car is my DD and i was considering investing in a cooler, but if there's risk of my coolant freezing or something like that then i won't do it...

It has nothing to do with coolant freezing.
The radiator cooler will keep your tranny fluid warmer because it is circulating next to water that is 180+ degrees...not what you want during warm weather driving. However, the radiator cooler will warm the tranny fluid quicker during winter driving.

Not trying to thread hijack, but I am in a somewhat similar situation.
I have a Circle D 3200 stall on my transmission. I'm not sure if there is a right or wrong way to hook one up or what brand is considered good so I am looking for a little help.
I want to purchase a top notch tranny cooler to meet my needs as it gets very hot down south . What brand or type should I get? Anyone have a link for the cooler and all the hardware I would need? (I am going to be getting it installed professionally by a shop also, so I'm assuming thy know where to mount it and such.
Any help would be greatlty appreciatted.
Thanks,
Matt
