Default Vacuum modulated shifts vs computer controlled

How much better is having vacuum modulated shifts rather than computer controlled? I'm not pushing that much power, but someday I may upgrade to a stroker (currently have heads/cam). I'm trying to decide which built tranny to go with and if I should opt for this.

Thanks.

Gary

I would never buy a "built" 4L60E that was not vacuum modulated. I am spoiled now that I have it. Biggest difference I noticed was the lightening quick downshift response vs stock; also seems to upshift a lot quicker at WOT.

Also, many people have had issues with the PCM not supplying proper line pressure thus causing premature wear issues. The vacuum control removes this problem.

I agree. I like my vacuum modulated setup a lot.

So what is involved in converting over to the vacuum modulated shifting?

Well, as far as I know, swapping out the electric pressure control solenoid with the vacuum controlled one, and machining the case for the vacuum input (line). Then usually they run a T fitting into the brake booster line to feed vacuum input into the trans. Not sure what else they do....

Wow...I didn't know vacuum would make that much of a difference. Thanks for the input.

If I did it again I'd opt for a TCI Trans Com and control the shifts threw it.
Plus u can set LU and shift firmness too along with many other features.

We have one in a customers 11.70 LT1 car and it works FLAWLESSLY.

Looks like a nice capability in that TCI unit,
but day-um! $800? Edit needs a couple more
transmission "*****" is all.

Edit is NOT remotely as good a a T-Com...The way it controls the trans is much more superior.I've seen trannys do strange things with EDIT but have NEVER seen a T-Com not shift or LU a trans exactly where u set it at bro.

I've had it so I'm speaking from experience....
