4l80e question? those that have done this conversion how about a parts list?
Is there any year 4l80e that I should get to have it mate right up to an ls1? Or are they all the same bolt pattern?
What flywheel can I use stock? I know I can change a bushing in the trans to use my current converter.

If I was going to do this I would get a 4L80e 99 or newer from a 6.0L truck and get the flywheel from the same truck, I guess you'd need a custom converter unless you liked any of the offerings for the HD trucks...Im not sure how you'd run the tranny though. If a re-program would be sufficient or If you'd need a tci t-com type setup.

is the bolt pattern the same on the old ones? do thay have a removable bellhousing like the 4l60e?
I am going to use my yank converter by using a different pump bushing
, I am also going to use a low gear planetary set. I am thinking of making it full manual but can change the wires to have it work with our computer and edit.
So here are my questions.
1 bellhousing bolt pattern what years will work?
2. Why will I need to use the 6.0l flywheel?

I have the conversion done - I used the manual valve body- trans go makes it. I had a custom tc made and use the stock flexplate . I'm really pleased - I was going to do the th-350 thing but am too happy with this combination. so if anyone wants a th-350 with brake - let me know. I use just 5 bolts with my bell housing- works fine- but I guess you could weld a piece of aluminum and drill for the extra hole. hope that helps 
yes, it shifts as soon as I move it to the next gear - up or down. and yes it's vacuum modulated- it comes with the transgo kit- the only wires going to it are the lockup power and the speedo connection

The flywheel is different,I used the flywheel from a 01 HD truck.You also need a crank spacer with longer bolts,these are available from the dealer.You'll need to have a late model transmission with the correct bellhousing 4L80Es don't have a removable bellhousing.You need to fabricate a crossmember the transmission is only slightly longer but the mount is about 6" further back and the pan comes back beyond the 4L60E mount location.The actuator cable cable will work but the bracket and nuetral switch are different.You'll need a conversion kit for the plugs and a PCM reprogram from Speartech.And you'll need a 4L80E torque converter.The Speartech programming will control the lockup.

ok let me ask a few more questions 
I am going to use an ls1 converter ,I know this can be done with a different bushing in the trans.If I use an older transmission I can just use a th-400 bracket like the guys that swap to a turbo 400 right? I am also going to go full manual valve body. If I have to put the lockup on a switch no big deal. I have ls1edit would I still need a pcm reprogram?

If you use a late model transmission with the spacer there's no need to change the bushing.Your PCM would have to add programming to run the 4L80E,then you could probably tune it with Edit.You probably want to consider a lower geared rearend the 4L80E's gearing is much taller and closely spaced.I don't think a 4L60E converter will work.

I know the wireing is in different spots on the conector but wires can be changed around rather easily. Converter will work with a bushing change in the trans itself.
I was planing on a full manual anyways.
I am going to get the low gear planetary set made by tci , 2.75 1st 1.57 second. Besides I am going to through a couple hundred shot of nitrous at this stroker so it should leave pretty well

It sounds like you are on top of things.I'm running my 4L80E in a daily driver supercharged Tahoe using 4.56 gears and 29" tires so I'm using the stock low gear planetary and shifting into 4th in the 1/4th mile the engine is always in the powerband.
I use a switch by the shifter to lock the converter. I have the "older" style 4l80e- same as the th-350/400. so I use only 5 bolts- no biggy- still run 10's and haven't broke it yet , you may be able to use the 4l60 converter but will have to find someone that can put a 4l80e pump drive end on- the first gear on a 4l80e is 2.48 vice the 3.06 in the 4l60e. I use a pro ratchet to shift the trans- really smooth to work and worked in my a4 consol- hope that helps
