I noticed that the shift points are lower also. What exactly does that mean? Is it the programming of the shift points based on the truck application or is it a physical limitation?

in the truck version they lower the RATING meaning that the trans will handle such and sch and amount of torque at 5600 rpm instead of 6100 in the car version....i have the car version and its not physically limited at all i rev it past 5600 with no problem.

I know this is old, but I wanted to mention that the '65's are available behind every LQ9 (High compression 6.0) motor...

The 4-pinion "high-speed" variant only came in the Corvette and V8 F-cars (this is why there are 2 pn's for F-car: V6/V8). The 5-pinion sets produced from 2001 to 2004 for 4L65E's do not have this "high-speed" oil slinger and hollow pinion pins. It's purpose is for VEHICLE high speed, not SHIFT speeds. Meaning, sustained top speed runs at 160 to 170 mph can really abuse the output carrier and pinions(imagine the output carrier and pinion speeds as they are overdriven in fourth gear at 170mph). Without the "high-speed" design, you'll eventually burn the pinions/washers. But remember, this is for GM's test of "Running the Corvette completely through one tank of gas at it's highest attainable speed." Not something the average driver is likely to do unless you drive on the autobahn (the reason the spec exists is for european corvettes). So basically those 2001 to 2004 4L65E's will work fine in your F-car. The 2005 C6 4L65E WILL HAVE a "high-speed" output carrier, it's just designed differently than the "slinger and hollow pins" 4-pinion method.
