Default 4l60e band

what would an improperly installed band do in a 4l60e. car had lost all gears except first and reverse. decided to pull it apart myself and when i pulled the pump off the band was already lose. could that be my problem? also need to know how to properly install it? any help or advise is appreciated

the second gear band is apllied in second and overdrive. plus when you pull the pump out the input shaft is not supported so the band will be loose.

my reverse input looks the same way would that cause my trans to not shift out of first gear?
