Stock 4L60E and a stall
#2
you will not get a reliable answer without more information. mileage of trans? how big of stall? what kind of power (i.e. nitrous vs motor)? will you leave torque management on? do you plan on adding a cooler?
they're rated at 360rwtq but that's probably with torque management on and on the stock converter. aftermarket ones add a lot of heat. some blow up under stock power, others survive 475rwhp for years.

the car went in the 10s on a safe tune with stock suspension stock 10 bolt with the stock gearing and stock trans with a vig 4000 stall converter speed incs SI5 cam and some nitrous

everyone wonders how much power it will handle and i say ive made about 4 pass on spray going 3 11.0 pass back to back then finally 10.95 (before i had it tuned which was yesterday and it made even more power).. the only reason y it is holding up is because a 4000 vig is not a good converter for nitrous. in my opinion its way to sloppy and it absorbs most of the hit from the nitrous.... otherwise if i had a yank 3200 stall i guarantee i could get the car in the low 1.4 high 1.3 60fts but b4 that even happend my trans would more than likely be in a million pieces

anything under 400 you'll probably be OKAY, but you never know, it could go out at any time even under stock power with the stock stall
im making 350hp/365tq and i have no doubts that my transmission will be fine. but i never go to the track and i dont really drive the car very hard. plus i had my transmission looked at when i had my shift kit installed and everything looks great in there. granted mine only had 38k miles when installed.

Just depends a few variables...what size stall, trans in good shape and etc. I have a RPM trans with a 3600 stall. I didn't want the headache of worrying about if my stock trans would hold up. RPM has a great reputation so I trust that it will hold up against what I am throwing at it. Good luck

I think a stall helps your trans hold on a little longer also higher shift pressures and faster shift times to keep it from slipping....
i ran my 4l60e with a cam only setup, then a heads cam setup, then an sts setup and then my current front mount setup at almost 600hp running the hell out of the car... the trans was stock with a vig3600 and never seen less than 400hp while i had it in (about 8000 miles). Now im running a RMVB th400 with brake..
Although i just got the trans tore down and am in the process of a rebuild because its going into my fiancees car. The clutches and bands are just about shot though! Would have made a few more wot runs and thats about it...
Get a tune to bump the shift pressures and faster shift time and that will help it last a little longer.
