external precautions to extend tranny life?
what can i do to make my tranny last a while?
I have a bolt on car with a PT4400...stock computer tuning
It has a stock rebuilt 4L60E in it w/a tranny cooler.
What else would help extend the life of the tranny?
Shift kit? Computer programming? deeper pan?
i know this stuff will help performance, but i'm more concerned about keeping the tranny good for a while. So which would be the best place to spend my money?

Remember Newton - an object at rest will tend to stay at rest unless attacked by 300+ horses.
Keep fluid cool and clean, and avoid abusive maneuvers, and let the tranny do its magic (no manual selections of gears).
Good luck

Also, get the deeper pan, set your fans to come on more often, use a trans cooler that keeps the trans temps under 200 at all times. Hell, I have my fans set to run constantly once the car has achived closed loop, just to keep air blowing across the cooler at all times....
Interesting, but are you worried about the current draw, and the MTBF of the fan motors?
Seriously, at any speed above 25MPH, you are flowing enough air thru, and at higher speeds YOU MAY BE IMPEDING the air - sure they will prob freewheel when off at 70MPH, but do they when ON???

If this was the case, then I would observe higher coolant temps at 70mph than at 20mph, and I don't. My highest temps are still seen when sitting idling.
Also, I don't recall ever having any issues with my old belt/crank driven fan cars. My old '71 Cutlass used to see 110+ mph blasts quite often, along with lots of 70mph cruising.
