Default 4L60E Reverse only after hard launch

My trans broke today, looking for some input from the pro's.

The trans has all of the good stuff inside, beast sunshell, borg warner 29 element sprag, Raybestos Zpak, pump slide spring, pump vane rings, etc etc.

No problems for about 3000 miles, today, I leave a light easy and then went WOT at about 20 mph. It revved up like normal, 6700 shift, BANG. Car kept going, cam to a stop and no forward gears, reverse only. You can hear a whine while car is running and in gear.

Looking for ideas.

Nope haven't had that one in a long time.
Here is the force motor in the tune.
This is a 2000 Corvette table

I was told not to play with it since I had the Transgo HD2 kit.

I have had zero symptoms of a failure, that's what sucks. I thought if the forward sprag broke I would still have a manual forward gear? I have the 29 element Borg Warner. I guess see what broke next week when I pull it apart.

Thanks for your input, you probably correct.

I'm going to go with......you have a broken output shaft. It is broke between the input planet and the rear ring gear support. Just a guess but probably a pretty good one. Let us know what you find. Vince

So you can break a output shaft and still have reverse? Yep this should be ugly inside.

I'm with vince. I broke an aftermarket output shaft right before the forward carrier splines once. Naturally I lost all forward range. If he broke the sprag, it would still pull off in m1 and m2 on the overrun clutch.

The reaction carrier assembly (rear 4 pinion planetary) is cracked and the splines in the center are gone where the sun gear locks in to it.

Strange I took my 04 SSR out yesterday and when I turned on a country road I went about 3/4 throttle and bang and it just coasted to a stop, No forward gears at all only reverse, Lucky a friend was with me and lived close to where we was so he drove his truck in front of me while I drove home in reverse, RPM built mine and said it sounded like a forward shaft broke, I have a 4L60 and I don't know of any parts that will go in that tranny that will hold up with a weight of 4800 pounds and about 700 rwhp. I feel for you and know how you feel, Just got the engine built and was just breaking it in

Mine is at least a cheap and easy fix, I can fix it myself luckily. You on the other hand have a 6l80e or minimum a 4l80e in your future.

You might be right or detune everything to run about 11.70 and just leave it at that, Good luck with your fix

It would be a shame to not use that horsepower, a 6L80e should be up to the task.
