Typical gain with the 278mm are about .3 - .4 in the 1/4. The 245mm Pro Series is anywhere from .5 - 1.0 depending on how bad you needed a converter. I have sold a lot of 278 for DD F-Bodies with some very satisfied customers. It just depends on what you want.

Just ordered my second "4C" converter from Chris....this one being a little more loose than the first per my request

The last one I bought replaced a Yank SS3600 and I can tell you that the Circle D is HANDS DOWN a better converter for around town than the Yank was.....I won't buy one from anywhere else for an f-body

Default 278MM Circle D !!!

I purchased a 278 mm 3200 stall from Circle D and had my ace LS1 mechanic Bad Chad install it friday night. The car has been transformed from a Dawwggg in low gears to a screamer and it is most definately quicker all thru the gears. I was afraid to get toooooo much stall so I purchased the 278mm and it is perfect for a street car IMO. The laziness is completely gone from the stock drivetrain. IT Screams now and i haven't tuned on it or anything yet. It is tight but you very well know it is in there. Perfect for a DD or somebody who doesn't want a loose stall to ride around in. A transmission will probably be in my future because I have been running the heck out of it putting a big smile on my face every time I launch that thing in low. GM should have put that stall in the car from the factory. It is a night and day difference but not too much==Perfect I would say!! I was hard headed and didn't listen to those who said do the convertor first but now I think they are right.....I KNOW a billet convertor would be quicker and better but honestly I didn't want more stall than this and after driving it I am happy with my decision mainly because it isn't a race car but a mostly stocker you can drive anywhere with good fuel economy,, good times radio playing with the A/C ice cold and run in the 11s.

Essentially you will want to spend the extra $450 if you need more than a 3000-3200 stall speed. Some people race more than others and it's worth the price difference to them in the name of fast. I'll see what I can do for pics.

I will have a 4L80 6 lug direct replacent soon.

Chris

Here are the fronts and they have had 2 operations done already, there is a total of 5.

Same bench, different angle.

This is what the blanks for the billet pistons look like, they will be machined next week.

This is a multi disk halfway through the 3rd operation.

A cool layout of the converter.

This is inside of the billet front, You can see the bearing I add to properly support the turbine and setup clutch clearance. This is a Circle D upgrade, other billet converters have nothing here.

This is the outside of the billet front, this is the main difference between the Stage I and Stage II. The Stage II is a much stronger front cover, it has the re-enforcement spokes to handle the big power. This converter will safely handle 450 RWHP.

The other side of the apply piston, reinforcement spokes for strength.

More pics if interested. LS1Tech Price $850
I will also be making a 4L80 version as well.
This may help

for all the doe we spend on our cars , $450 for a performance increase of atleast .2 - .3 seems like a bargain. i would guess theres no difference in normal driving the $400 3200 stall vs the $850 3600. im also curious if someone can explain why the billet converter is so much more efficient? thx

I'm also looking at the circle d for my ls swapped iroc. Any recent updates on their converters? I'm torn between yank and circle d.
