Default A4

Ok I have a A4, my budy has a manual Cobra. My budy said that I am able to shift my A4 like a manual-1,2,3 gears, you know just to have a little fun. I always thought you have to get a shift get to do that, right? My other budy with a A4WS.6 said you can really screw up your trans doing that. I never do it, but I'm wondering? Also, what is a good shift kit out there?

A lot of guys use the transgo shift kit.

As far as manually shifting the A4, I would just keep the shifter in OD and let the transmission shift on it's own, but that's just me.

Speaking of which, can someone settle this between my friend and I. When should someone use the D with the square around it, the D with nothing around it, 1, and 2 on an A4?

Use Over drive (D with square) for normal every day driving.
Use drive (D with nothing) at the track to prevent the upshift in the 1/4 mile.

Northerners can correct me but 1 can be used in snow and ice to prevent an upshift that will make you slide.

It's pretty well-known that shifting up and down through the gears is bad for the trans. It's ok, though, to leave it in 3rd around town if you want to keep the revs a little higher. Starting out in with the selector in 2nd eliminates 1st for snow and ice conditions.

At the track it's best to make your passes in OD, though.

I would not ever recommend manually shifting a 4L60E through all the gears when racing. It's hard on the trans, and it won't make you any faster.

However, going back and forth between D (3rd) and OD (4th) is no big deal...

from what ive heard, upshifting the car manually is fine but downshifting it is very hard on the trans...also as stated using the 2 locks out first and is a BIG help in winter conditions (even tho i make every attempt not to drive my ONLY car in those conditions at all ).....also as stated, upshifting the car at the track usually doesnt make u any faster unless the computer's shift points are messed up to begin with.
