Need help th400 install in a 97 LT1 firebird
What is needed for the install?
I have the trans, cooler and lines that I can make up for the car.
Can I reuse my stock crossmember a4 for the conversion?
ITs a short tail shaft trans, Can I reuse my stock driveshaft?
What converter will I need to get a sbc standard or does it have to be lt1 specific?
What shifters fit in the stock console, pics and part numbers would be great?
thanks and hope this helps and you can help me

need an aftermarket, or 6 speed crossmember.
you need a new driveshaft
converter should be a standard sbc
I'm going with either a cheetah or stealth ratchet shift, not using my old console though.

Yep same as above, the 6 speed crossmemeber can be used But I think you need to shim it a bit and move it back like 2 inches further? Im sure someone will chime in and let you know for sure.

a friend of mine has an LT1, he was wondering if you needed a spacer if you're using an sbc converter like the Hughes spacer for the LS1 crank, or does the sbc converter sit in the back of the LT1 crank without any problems?
Well, I liked the cheetah that robs ss has, but I decided a rachet shifter would be cool, so I got the stealth pro ratchet. I like the feeling of it so far on the bench, I'll probably be throwing it in the car tomorrow.
no.... th400 uses a different yoke.

What tranny is in your LT1 4L60?
Not famaliar with Fbodies but I did grow up on small blocks and played with many 200's 400's and 350's and one thing that is always a problem is that damn 400 yoke. I believe the splines are spaced further an the actual shaft that slides onto the main shaft is larger than majority of other yokes. Check the 12th post this link.

You could get either your 400 yoke in a bolt on style or fixed to driveshaft style if you have driveshaft made.

OK, cuz all I remember is th400s with yokes already on them and I grew up with old school hotrods. So I was too wondering how the driveshaft would fit when the th400 has a bolt on style yoke. You then can just get a custom driveshaft and bolt up to the yoke and the differential then huh?
