Or if the converter is too far away from the flywheel and you don't add any shims, it could pull it back out of the pump. Did you check the converter to flywheel spacing?

You can unhook a trans cooler line and see if it pumps fluid out. If not then you've got no pump.

Is there any way to test the pump once the tranny is down???

Default trans pump

do what joncr96 said. pull a trans line off at the trans cooler. if the pump is working it will shoot trans fluid out. its most likely the pump. i had the same thing happen to mine and a mechanic put my converter in.

yeah i guess i could explain better. once you get everything squared away and start to put the converter back on. what you do it spin it while pushing it in. it should fall in three times. then once you mate the transmission up to the block there should be about a 1/8 space between the flywheel the the converter (make sure the converter is pushed all the way into the transmission when you measure)

Thank you for the info on the spacing.

I followed this for my TC install, skip to step F for some measurements before bolting up the Trans

^ after reading that, i think i understand how the pump gets smashed, is it because if there's not enough room between the flywheel and TC, when you bolt up the trans the flywheel smashe's the converter into the trans, in turn smashing the pump?

no i believe its because the stall isnt keyed all the way into the pump which causes it to tear the pump up as soon as it spins.

dont be worried. im a stupid 19 year old that has never done this stuff before and i did it successfully. just follow what i said earlier.

put the converter onto the transmission and slowly turn while pushing in on it and it will key in 3 different times. if you do this you will be fine, plus you check the spacing once the transmission it bolted to the block, if the spacing isnt correct you either didnt put the converter on right or might need spacers to make up for the gap.

My mechanic didn't read the directions on seating the verter. Same is happening to me. I'm about to go out and do the ol' pump test and see if anything comes out of the tranny line to the cooler.
