Dilemma. . . .Should I stay or should I go?
So im currently rebuilding my 4L60E, I bought a 3200 stall for it, to go with a 230/224 111 lsa and some 5.3l heads. so one of my friends has a manual that wants to swap me. i am paying for the rebuild (around $500) and then the install of the auto into his car (around $700), and he was gonna pay me for the stall. And to save money i was gonna install the manual in my car myself. i daily drive my car and rarely go to the track, so drivability and mpg are a concern for me. should i swap to a manual or stick with a stalled auto?

I have been contemplating this ever since I got my car. This year I might just do it. I have a 4k stall and I laugh when someone complains about gas mileage. But I love driving my stalled auto

I have no experience with stalled autos, but I hear they are fun and reliable if they are set up and tuned correctly with a properly built transmission.
To me, if you are in a heavy traffic area (like I am), then definitely stay auto. I HATE driving stick in traffic, but it can be done. On the flip side, I don't really trust autos, so if you live in a light traffic area, I would go manual if you can afford it.

I have had two M6 cars and I really enjoy them. But when push comes to shove, I prefer the stalled automatic. I love the free revving feeling of the motor against the drivetrain. Both my TCI 3000 and current Yank SS3600 have been excellent for both daily driving and at the track.
My A4 gets about 2mpg less both in town and highway than the M6. Weigh that against the PITA of driving a stick in heavy traffic. I'm from CA and know that drill all too well.

I had an A4 94 Z and got the M6 bug, so I sold it and bought a M6 99 SS. I thought it was cool as beans at first, but then the excitment wore off real fast. I turned a quick profit on the SS and bought my 02 A4 TA. It has a Yank SS 3600 and is a whole bunch more fun to drive than my M6 SS. If you have never driven a stalled LS1 before, you will in for a real treat. With a proper set up and some good stickies you will *** rape most M6's that you come accross that are similar (power wise) to yours (in a straight line).

If drivability and gas mileage are your concern than a stalled auto is your enemy! I always see it the other way around (manual cars swapping to auto), but in there case the car was for track use or more performance straight line racing. I was going to choose stick with the auto, but after reading what you said i voted to swap to the manual... I think it will end up coming down to your preference... good luck man!
