The manual valve body was converted by me with a transgo kit. It takes about 8 hours to do. No Biggy!!!!! You can use a stock shifter because it isn't a reverse pattern but I think it would be hard to shift the gears. You would have to manually shift up and down every gear. Yes, I do have a manual lock up switch for the converter. You can lock it in any gear. I lock it up in third when spraying. I don't have a digital camera. Hope that helps.

phil h , I didn't need to do anything to the pcm- but the last time I had my pcm programmed- they deleted the tranny codes so the check engine lite went off, but before that I ran fine but the lite was on- doesn't affect the motor.. the stock speed will plug right into the speed sensor on the back of the 4l80e the front one is a input the rear is the output- what plastic shims are you talking about?

Are there certain years of 4L80's that would work best. What did they come in. My uncle owns a salvage yard...he could probably hook me up if i knew some of the vehicles they came in.

Pretty sure they started in 1990 and are still being put in the 2500 series trucks and other models also. You later model ones will have the LS1 bolt pattern but the early years will also bolt up.

You guys make this sound really interesting since I am about to buy an auto this week or so. Where would i go about buying one BTW?
Also do they fit under the tunnel with no modifications needed and can I use my 6-speed cross member?
Decisions...Decisions

A 4L80E is about the same size as a TH400,it's only a fraction of an inch longer than a 4L60E but the pan extends past the stock mount location so clearance needs to be provided for the pan and the mounting pointing is about 6" further back.

so if one were to get a late model 4l80e, and they had the yank th400 adapter crossmember that allowded the use of the stock torque arm then they would be ok??
I may consider this, I just dont have all the cash right now to do it. but I think that I have a line on the tranny conversion kit with a th400 pretty cheap. the only problem is the guy said that his car is at like 6k @65 with 3.73 gears and a 3400 stall
thanks

So i will need a late model 4l80E, a new crossmember, a new torque converter, a seperate computer to control the transmission, and...what does it take to get the factory shifter to work, i really dont want to cut up my console. Can i use the factory flexplate (if it will fit will it be stong enough). Where can i get a converter, around 3600-4000stall, and what kind of price am i looking at.

Your factory shifter will work you need a 6.0HD flywheel,a crank spacer and a 4L80E nuetral switch with bracket.I modified my stock crossmember, removing about 1 1/2" of height and adding a 6" rear extension with a 1 1/2" riser for the mount. You can get a converter from Precision,Yank or TCI.My stock driveshaft fit with just the change of Yokes to a TH400 part.
