Default Temps High. Cooler Position

I think I finally figured out why my Tranny Temps were so high.
Only 1/4 of my cooler was being used.

I have my B&M 24k cooler mounted in front of the condenser with both hoses pointed down.

The top 3/4 of the cooler is cool so I know fluid isn't flowing. So is it because its clogged or air??

Maybe the flow rate going thru it only feeds thru enough to go up so high thru the cooler?
Sounds like its the plate type right?
One suggestion, ..., ports mounted sideways, in thru the bottom, out thru the top, ..., would help use the full efficiency of the cooler.

Push from bottom, return from top would force out any
trapped air. Other way around, the bubble (if any) would
stay at the top of the cooler.

You could always pull the cooler down, unhook one hose and turn that side to the highest position and see if any air comes out.

I'll see if I can get it sideways. If not, I will point the hoses up.

Thanks.

Turned the cooler on its side.

Out from the top of the radiator to the bottom of the cooler. Then back to the tranny.

First drive today. Temps kept climbing very slowly. Eventually they hit 260*
The whole cooler was hot. Laser read 180

Engine temps stayed around 200*.

I am running out of ideas.

Did another cruise. 66 outside. Engine temp 185.
70 mph on the freeway converter locked. Tranny temps were 200 and climbed to 216. WTF?

When I got home. Only 1/4 of the cooler was hot. Pulled it away from the radiator to make sure it wasn't the fans keeping part of it cool. The rest of the cooler never got hot. Both inlets were on top.

Turned off the engine for a few minutes. Started it back up and about 3/4 of the cooler was hot now.

I am guessing the cooler is screwed up. I have another one coming tomorrow, hopefully that will fix this problem.

Cooler is fucked apparently. Get you a new one asap before it ruins your trans.

Changing out the external cooler didn't help.

76 outside. Engine temps 190. Tranny temps 216. Sitting at idle for 15 minutes dropped it one degree.
Even on the freeway it never dropped.

Going to bypass the radiator cooler.

Looks like bypassing the radiator cooler helped. Not sure if it was clogged or what.

But engine temps were 195-200. Tranny temps never went over 199 on the freeway.

City speeds tranny temps went up to 205. But after a short idle they dropped to 199.

The cooler was completely hot all over. So flow must have been an issue.

I'll go for a longer drive next time.

Ever fix your overheating problem? I know its not recomended to install your cooler with lines facing down because of trapped air (I know that wasnt the problem but im just saying) Did you change setups or cooler location?

I am running two 24k coolers in parallel. So far its been keeping the tranny temps under 200. But the engine temps are a bit higher. I think because of the air flow. But so far so good.
