Default Possible trans failure

I have a performabuilt level 2 4l60e. it has been in my car since the summer of 2007. The other night on my way home i decided i was going to get on my car from a red light. i reved it up a lil bit and went to take of when the light turned green. The car went right to the rev limiter and did nothing. I put it into 1 and went thro the gears and got it into od. It then started acting really werid. at the time before i tried to launch at a light the trans temp was at 170 when i made it back home which was maybe 10 min away the temp was at 190. i pulled the trans dip stick out and it had metal shavings on the end. I did this 3 more times with the same result. Now im trying to figure out if the trans shitted out of it was the converter failing. Any help would be awesome thanks

Sounds like a broken forward sprag.
No matter who builds it that is always a weak spot in the 4L60E trans.

It could cause metal shavings.

Pull it out and try again.

With metal shavings in the pan, there is likely metal in every crevice in the trans. So I would suggest a complete teardown, thorough cleaning of all parts, replacement of all friction elements (metal can become imbedded in the friction material), etc.
Basically a full rebuild.

It's not a hit on Performabuilt or any other trans builder. It's a weak design and to my knowledge ( I don't specialize in 4L60Es so I don't stay as up to date as some) there is no improved part for this other than the dual cage sprag everyone uses. It's a load bearing component that simply has a limit and shock loading kills them.

I'm amazed they hold up as well as they do.

We offer a restore on the units its 950 and including shipping both ways all parts and labor with a brand new warranty. It could be a trans or converter failoure but in either case you must have the trans gone through.
Thanks
Frank

A new converter billet from us would be 845 more with the build that would also get you a two year warranty on both
