aren't as well lubricated as the 4L60-E 4-gear so they don't
want to spin it as fast. It started as a truck tranny I believe.
and not having an oil passage I think. Less oil flow cooling then.
I figure the aftermarket will soon learn to pick & choose the best
off the '65 (for expense), the case is no big improvement if at
all, and the marginal improvement in rated torque is going to
drive anyone intending serious abuse to a rebuild and its
expense anyway... I don't see the '65 as any kind of "crate
tranny" solution. It's just a way of keeping truck warranty
claims down, as cheaply as possible, the way I see it. Just
hoping the good parts get cheaper, where they apply.

Anyhow, that's probably why they got rid of the oil passages through the pinions (better strength).
