I wouldnt say there is a "best converter" out there... FTI, Yank, Circle D, all got a good rep. Your best bet is to call each one of them and decide wich fits your build best. Yank ss3600 seems to be one of the most popular converters on this site. But I have seen FTI converters pick up mph and et in the 1/4 just from switching out a competitors converter to thiers... again best bet is to call them. Not sure on performance shops other than Texas Speed...

Yank apparently has the most efficient converters. I haven't seen many others test efficiency.

Obviously I dont have a Yank, I use Circle-D, and am more than happy with it too.

I went with Redneck Converters (in Texas)....price was good and heard nothing but good things about them...even from other converter Mfgs.

Worth a call ?

Circle D Specialties would be my recommendation as well. They have top quality and customer service. You won't be disappointed.

PM me and I can direct you to a good reputable LS performance shop near you also.

It's hard to choose. All mentioned seem to be reputable companies.

I personally bought a Yank, but bought it before I knew of all the other choices out there.

circle d 4c here... swapping converter ONLY CHANGE gained 1mph and .7 tenths in the 1/8th mile off of previous best...

Actually if i compare apples to apples with the et streets on stock stall its nearly 2 mph gain with the 4c on the et streets as well (havnt run the 4c with street tires at the track yet, no traction lol). The et street biasply slow you down a bit compared to radials. I consider that bang for the buck. drives nice too. Some people say their 3600+ converter drives like stock, but i believe some people interpretations of stock are pretty vague...

everyone is going to have a different opinion, mostly based on who they went with. do the research and make up your own mind.

im running a Yank PT3800 and like it. i am looking around again as i need a new trans and dont know if i want the down time to have this one cut and cleaned (im overseas, so it would be a while vs. buying a new one)

We use racepack Data to measure efficiency. Not all combinations need or will perform well with a converter that is over efficient. While most wont believe that but the converter has to be set up for your combo. Not efficient enough and mph will suffer and to efficient mph will suffer because the motor cant pul it in high gear! we have many converters that show less than 2% slippage. Mainly used in Nitrous and boosted applications.

This is research IMO.
I've had two mentioned in this thread in my car, and I've driven two cars very similiar to mine with a yank.
The one I'm running now is exactly what I wanted, the other one was way off.

I think part of the problem with people putting converters in these cars is that they never owned a high stall converter so when they get one they think 'well this is a "stall" hmm'

I think at least half the people on this site don't know what the right converter for their application even feels like.
