Default Converter selection help for a oddball car

Well I am finishing up the RX7 LS1 200-4r swap and I am trying to figure out which converter and what stall to go for. Weight at around 2900lbs 4:10 rear currently possibly dropping to a 3.90. Also ET streets at the strip.

I am looking at:

Yank
SS3800
SS4000
SS3800E
SS4000E

Or any others you may suggest. The car is a 231/237 cam with stage 2 ls6 heads and a NXL direct port kit currently running 120 jets.

The car isnt a daily driver but a fun driver and a *** kicker on the street and probably 4-5 strip days a month.

Whats your opinion? I want great ET's but not undrivable on the street.

Mike

With you only spraying a 120 shot...I would go with the 4000E...Im sure you wont be spraying everytime you race..the 4000 will be good on the motor as well

The most I will go will be 180. Anything above that I feel like I need to be forged.

Is there really any noticable difference between the SS3800E and the SS4000E? 200 rpm stall speed doesnt seem like it would make much difference.

I would say pye3600, it'll be alot easier to hook on the street with the DP. With a car that weighs 2900lbs and 4.10s there really isnt a need for a big stall.

4.10 + 26" ET Street = not a lot of room for nitrous

Nitrous will make any converter flash about 800 rpms higher than what it's rated for.

28" ET Streets and I will be changing the rear to a 3.9, unfortunately thats as low as it goes without a $$$ custom ring and pinion.

So is a 3800 stall to high?

How fast you looking to go? Are you more a track guy then a street type? I would think the tighter converter would be alittle faster on the spray on the street.

A guy with a similar setup as mine but running a 100 shot and a t56 is running 10.1's @ 137. I imagine my mph will be a little lower than his but I also think my et will be a tad better. This car is more of a track car but it will see a lot of street time once this shitty weather breaks.

I know we talked awhile back if you do want that Yank 3600 I have it at home sitting ready to be shiped. It went 10.6s @ 136mph with a 150 shot on a 422 (traction was limited.. very...) It made 4 total passes, 2 on nitrous, and 4 dyno pulls. Just want $500 for it.

Chris nevermind I reread your pm you did say yank. What converter is it exactly? Does it have an anitballon plate? You were gonna get back to me after you talked to mike kurtz you were sure if it was set up to bolt directly to the 200-4r.

Let me know cause there is a GP on yanks right now so if i dont get yours I am gonna get one of those Porbably a SS3800E unless someone has any advice on a reason not to.

I have 2 converters. The one in the car is the Custom TCS Converter. The one in the box is the Yank 3600. It is there one that is for Nitrous Applications. The Transmission bolts up directly to the block. The stall is a 3600 for Nitrous. Wish it fits your needs, want to buy some furniture and its one of the few things left I got forsale lol
