Default need help with selecting a torque converter

getting my transmission rebuilt and im trying to figure out what converter i want. the cars about 425 hp at the crank and i wanna use it for all street use. i dont want a real loose converter i had a 2800 stall vigalante on my last car but i think that is a little higher than i wanna go i was wondering if a 2500 stall or a 2200 stall would work im looking for people who maybe own converters that small and if they like the way they drive. also looking for a good brand for the money if anyone could chip in some advice it would be nice thank you. i was also wondering if you have to tune the car after the converter i have heard both ways so im not sure which way to go

I run a Circle-D 3000 and its perfect for me. Had a 4C and hated how loose it was even with 3.42 gears. Im not sure I would want to go with that low of a converter, it'll be a turd off the line.

I am surprised that converter was loose. My Yank SS3600 is not loose feeling.I would go w/ a Yank SS3200 or Yank Stealth 3000.

I would vote for a Yank 3200 or 3600 or a Circle D 3000. I have had both Yank and circle D and they are both amazing converters.

What one person thinks is loose someone else may think is fine for daily driving. Gears will also have an impact on the feeling of a converter too, not sure what rear gear you are running. I have heard alot of people say that the 4C was fine for daily driving. For me it was just too much, so I stepped down to a smaller converter and am very happy with it. If you go with 3000 stall or smaller I dont see why would need a tune.

As was stated in post#7,gears will have an effect on how a stall feels.
When I went with a TCI 2800,it felt loose with my OEM 3.23s'. When I put the 4.56s' in,all 'looseness' was gone and it felt like the OEM 1800 stall was back in.
Since OEM stall is 1800,going to 2200 or 2500,is a very small increase in rated stall.

'loose'-we'll use from a stop as an example-engine rpm has to reach a higher than OEM stall level to get the vehicle moving.
'tight'-as soon as you drop it into gear from P or N the vehicle will start moving just at its' idle rpm as soon as you take your foot off the brake.

Got a 99 getting a rebuild. I want dd useage. They want me to replace the stock tc and I'd assume upgrade it. It has no cam but trans is out. I've never ridin in a stalled car. Is this thing gonna base line 3200 rpms while cruisin constantly. Can I just clean the stock tc. Or just buy a 2500 stall. I've only driven this ls1 vent 300 miles and the 4l60e came out with under 90k mi. It has the vette servo and balds the tires in 2 nd and tries for 3rd. I was told it had no shift kit at trans shop. The old timer whole sold it said he didn't know about the trans but thought it had a sk. It acked like I'd did so I was not conserned. Would the servo do that or did I get shafted.

I've never heard anyone describing a 2800 stall as being too loose. I had one and it really felt like the stocker, even when I first got it. And this was with 2.73 gears.
FWIW that 2800 stall didn't do much for me at the dragstrip, maybe 2 tenths.

3000 stall is usually my minimum suggestion on a F-Body. Our 278mm is a great option for a basically stock dd.
