Default vibration when converter locks up

ok so i just had a new converter put in and it drives fine except that i get a bad vibration whenever it locks up (usually around 55-70). it only vibrates when i give it gas, but when i cruise or hold a steady pedal it doesnt vibrate. also, it doesnt vibrate when i mash the gas, or when its unlocked. any ideas? the converter was balanced before i installed but thats kind of what it sounds like.

What converter? Are you running poly motor/trans mounts? When my converter locks depending on the load I feel a slight vibration momentarily. I only noticed it after I installed my chassis mounted torque arm though.

Some TCC clutch systems will groan or chatter when they
slip. I'd begin with raising the min TCC duty to 98%. "Slip
learning" is the devil.

i have a chassis mount torque arm and a poly trans mount. basically it'll lock up and be fine, but when i give it a little gas once it locks up the center console vibrates pretty violently unless i either let off the gas or gas it enough to unlock the converter. so you think i need to get a retune?

oh, and the torque converter is a tci but it's been rebuilt

Well, that depends on the nature of the vibration.

I had a relocating crossmember onmy car for about 2
weeks and ditched it because it was similar to what you
now describe. But I don't recall it depending on the
state of lockup.

Maybe the motor doesn't like to lug, and the hard
coupled lockup mode throws any engine vibe back
onto the tail mount?

You might experiment with putting the old rubber
mount back on, if you kept it.

I have the same issue.... it is a little better now that I have been playing with the pinion angle.

Was the old converter the heavy stock one, or another
lightweight?

Suppose there could be some imbalance on the heavy
side, that would hard couple into the trans more when
locked, but I'd think you'd have felt more motor vibe
at idle as well (I did, when I swapped the Fuddle for
the TCI; poorer balance quality). But I do not have a
locked-up shake that's any worse than unlocked.

it was the stock one. i do get a little vibration at idle but i have a slight misfire so i figured thats why. im gonna comfort myself by saying my problem is a tuning issue and just get it retuned on a dyno or somethin haha
