Default whats a th400 eat

dont say 25% or 15%. im looking for a hp number. if i want 800 hp to the motor what will that do to the wheels? 700 or 650?

It's going to be tough to get a good answer, mostly because of the efficiency of the torque converter.

what mike13 said. I swapped to a th400 from a 6sp, also took off my cats during this time, added a 9 inch with the same 410 gears but a spool and made 7 less rwhp. Same dyno, same tuner, same software, almost same weather. FTI stall... Pretty close to apples to apples comparison.

It depends on how fast you try to accelerate it....also the converter will likely eat more than the trans.

Converter will play a big part in what is loss.

From personal experience, we had a guy, local, had a 98 T/A with a Rapid Motorsports 383 which made around 550 rwhp to a 12 bolt and 6 speed. The kid swapped out the trans and a looseish 4500 converter (set for nitrous). On motor the car dynoed 480 rwhp, a good 70 HP loss over the 6 speed.

Car was tuned and work done by Eastside Perf out of Wallingford CT, former record holder for the LSx Nitrous Record, so they know what they are doing.

One other thing I might add is the car got a whole lot faster once the Auto went in.

right so.... say im looking to make 800 flywheel horse power. if i dyno 650 to the wheels i lost 150hp. i dont want to push it to far but i would like tho get close to a certin flywheel hp. but need to know when to stop on the dyno.

so if i dyno say 700, we could figure 850 to the motor?

dyno queen? lol no. i dont want to push the motor past 1100hp. so if the th400 eats 200hp. then at 900 wheel ill stop turning it up. if it eats 350 ill stop 750.
do you all understand what im saying? i dont give a f what it puts to the wheels. im using the dyno to get a number, that i can convert in to flywheel numbers. and i use the flywheel numbers to aprox figure out e/t and mph

When i am thinking of an automatic build i always say 100hp because if it uses less than 100hp you'll be happier!

well from what ive researched 18psi will get me aprox 1k flywheel. i think.
so ill hit 18lbs and see what it does, just wanted some input from others

About 26hp, does not seem like a bad loss esp with the launches you will get with that automatic. And i bet that TH400 is less efficient than a 4L60e
