Default '70 Chevelle TH350 problem, refuses to burnout?

I've got a built 350ci backed by a TH350. Now just recently ive noticed that if i floor it, the motor revs around 3k and doesnt really do much. It never revs higher than that while driving.

Also when i try to burnout recently, the whole front of the car torques like hell, but the tires wont turn anymore. But this only happens every once and a while, other times, i can lay a mean patch. The rear is a 10 bolt, 2.56 highway gear (****), im planning on upgrading the rear because they alone dont let the car rev very high, but im pretty sure they aren't causing me to be able to burn rubber, then next day not burn ****, and that even when foot braking!.

What could be the problem?

I built a th350 for a kid I used to work with.
He brought it back because his piece of **** wouldn't power brake, he burned up the forward clutches trying.

A week or two he brought it back again, I forgot why, but the low roller was broken.
A few weeks later he confessed to neutral dropping it to try to get it to burn out.

Thats what the future of your transmission is looking like.

Make the engine run right, change the rear gears. Might as well build the trans since it's already taken a beating.

But the trans still moves the car alright, it just ... lost its *****. lol

So could it be the forward clutches? I've never neutral dropped it, im not stupid. What exactly does the low roller do? And if it were the forward clutches, would it still drive?

If it were the forwards, the transmission would slip trying to go forward in all forward gears (if it even moved forward at all).

What gear was the shifter in when you tried it?

Ok so i still might have a chance at having at good tranny? I have a 3.32 rear being rebuilt right now, so hopefully it'll be in around spring.

I have an early 70s TH350 coupled to a 3.23 10-bolt, and had trouble keeping traction before taking the LS1 plunge. Now I'm certain my traction issues will be worse, but oh well :-)

The original engine wasn't anything special (@300 HP small block) and the tires were (and remain) 245/16-50 Firehawks. My (uneducated) guess is that your current rear gear ratio is hurting that bottom-end grunt power.

The 3.23s are great. I don't really have to try to light 'em up, and it's good for general street use as well. However, I do have a 12-bolt waiting in the wings with a 4 series Richmond gear set in it. That will be... fun

Drive a 3 speed auto car with 2.56s. With my foot to the floor, it'll never rev over 4k all they way to top speed. I was exaggerating. lol

Thanks man . For your information, i'm 19, but i rebuilt my 350 from scratch and only used the machine shop to hone the cylinders and drill for 4 bolt caps. I know my **** in certain areas, others i do not. Transmissions are one of those I'm not good with. No need to be a dick.
