Help me ID this converter
I picked this used converter up a few weeks ago for a fairly good deal from a guy locally. He got it secondhand and had no idea what brand it was, only the stall and some of the features. I believe it is a 3000 stall, has an antiballooning plate, looks to be a B&M blue (looks lighter in the picture), and is for a 700/2004r. Stamped on the top of the convertor is "M17" and on the side is "0669L" or it could be "76990" flipped over. After cross referenceing all of the big names, B&M, TCI, Hughes, etc. I cannot find a cross reference p/n. The main reason I want the cross reference is to find out whether it has lockup or not. Any help would be great, thanks.

Out of the three companies you mentioned I doubt it is a TCI(Black or grey) or a Hughes(red). Might be a B&M but I really don't know. Looks like a cheap POS IMO. Most quality high stall converters have billet front covers and do not have that budget welded ring on them. Just saying. Is there a plate welded on the back side of that converter? I don't see a ballooning plate from here. Maybe ask the guy you purchased it from if it is a LU converter. Vince

Looking back on it, I believe it is higher than 3000. The guy I bought it from has no idea whether or not it has lockup, he didn't use that feature. Short of cutting it open is here a way to tell if a converter has lockup?

What are you going to use this on?
If it's for a 700 and 200-R4 then it has the small 1984 and older 700 input shaft size.
You would be better off getting it cut open anyway just to be sure it's not full of garbage and is going to ruin the trans you put it into.
