Default 4L65E with no provision for 3-2 solenoid

I just swapped an LS2 with a "brand new" 4L65E into my '81 Camaro. On startup the computer showed an error code for a bad 3-2 solenoid. The trans also would not shift while driving. Therefore I did a ohm-meter test on trans pin "S" and it showed open. Bummer. So I pulled the pan and surprise! Not only is there no 3-2 solenoid, the valve body is not even machined to support one. And there is no pressure manifold switch.

Notice there is no machining to hold the 3-2 solenoid.
(The Lock-up PCM is removed in these pictures.)

The transmission is from an unknown OEM/Crate engine/trans package where the original buyer only wanted the engine for fancy boats.

The transmission has case # 24220974. The unusual valve body has numbers "M16" and 4237981 (? hard to read).

Has anyone ever seen this? Is there anyway to get this to work with a 2002 PCM? Or do I simply need to get a new (standard) valve body?

Thank you for any info and advice.

You could put a dummy load in the harness a resistor of the correct value to fool the pcm

What you have there is a 2009 unit. It looks like the pwm solenoid for the lock up function is missing as well. If you wanted to swap out the valve body, seperator plate and the inturnal harness then yes the trans will work with the computer you have. Vince

Thank you all for the replies so far; I have been google'ing/studying as each came in. I watched the Transgo 4l60E video and noticed in one of their docs that the 3-2 solenoid was deleted in 2009.
(Vince, I removed the lock up pwm solenoid during my studying.)

I will first try either a dummy 10-20 Ohm resister (I know - 10 watt min) or the PCM or try disabling po785 (I have HP Tuners pro).

Also strange that the pressure manifold switch is missing.
Is this another '09 thing, or is this just an unusual trans?

Sounds like the best solution will be a "older" valve body, separator plate and wiring harness. I assume any old '96-'08 4L60E could supply them; I would use my new solenoids.

the pressure manifold was used to monitor manual valve position it is now being monitored by the nice little sensor on the inside of the shaft. on the allys it was used to verify shift solenoid status and then the trim valves actually controlled the shift.

Thank you. Can you (or anyone) give me a link to details on these recent 4L60E changes. I'm also looking for a detailed "Theory of operation" on the 4L60E so that I can better understand all this.

I've just ran into this problem recently, but showed code P1810. Did you eventually find a solution to fix this? Would replacing valve body with older 4l60e work such as this? https://www.ebay.com/itm/4L60E-4L65E...BabVC-&vxp=mtr

As I PM'ed you, I bought a 2006 VB, a similar year internal harness, Transgo 46-PLT-96 separator plate and gaskets, and the trans worked fine after installing those. It was the beginning of learning all about the 4L60E and becoming ever more active here.
I'm still running that trans, although it has been disassembled and upgraded many times.
I also bought several broken/worn-out trans on CL, rebuilt them, ran them in my car for a while and later sold them. In the process I have tried out pretty much every after-market part and every 3/4 clutch combination.

What harness are you running for the transmission on there. I am having the exact same problem with my trans as well do you by chance have part numbers for all of parts? My truck has been down for over 2 years and no one can figure out what is wrong with it.

Start a NEW Thread of your own, and include as much information and images as possible.

Posting the GM "Broadcast Code" for your transmission... or at least what year the Transmission is necessary.
