Default Truck trans/housing will it fit in an fbody?

As the title says. Will a truck tranny (4L60E) fit in a fbody? Is it the same housing?

The main case housings are the same but the trans as a whole has some differences. What are you trying to do here? Some more info would help so we can give you the info you really need. Vince

I am looking at removing the 4L80 that was put I'm the car before I got it. So I am going to put a 4L60 back into it. Basically detuning the car.

Look for a truck unit 2000 and later. Just keep in mind that the linkage shaft would have to be changed and also the tail if you do not have the torque arm relocated. You might want to consider installing a vet 2nd gear servo if you use a truck unit. Hope this helps. Vince

Vince, Thanks for the info. I do have a 4L60E Torque arm relocation bracket so that wont be a problem. And I may have found a tranny out of a Camaro/Firebird.

What purposae would changing out the 2nd gear servo to a Vet do? Sorry I dont know trannys very much.

Thanks Tim.

If you get a trans that was from a fbody then you will not have to worry about the vet servo. This was installed from the factory. The thing is on truck units they reduced the surface area on the apply piston. This reduces the amount of fluid surface area thus having less holding power. The vet servo will shift a bit firmer than the 553 servo found in most truck units. I think they did this from the factory to reduce complaints of hard 1-2 shifts. Vince
