OK, I've got your attention - flame suit on.
I'm putting an LQ4 6.0 with a 4L80E into an '87 Jaguar XJ6. The 6.0 is going in bone stock until I get it going and the bugs worked out. I'm looking for a "cheap" 4L80E converter to use for the time being. Cheap as in stockish. I currently do not have a converter at all. The car weighs around 3800, has 2.88 gears, and is mainly a cruiser. If/when I get to the point of adding a cam/gears/whatever, I don't mind if this is tossed in favor of a "real" converter. That may be a year or more away. Should I just get an AC Delco reman, other reman, or what? Any particular "stock" application better than others (I heard wives tales of 4.3V6/4L80Es in vans)? I think the "mid range" converters are a waste, so I'd rather get up and going on the cheap, and put in a Circle D when it's appropriate.

I'm in Houston. I really appreciate the offer (!), but I'd like to start out with a new reman, since the trans only has 2k on it. I'm just wary of a used converter messing up the trans. Thank you very much for the offer though.

I would probably think about the OEM/reman if you're not wanting to get a good quality converter right now. I went cheap the 1st time around. It cost me a tranny, and I had to shell out the money for a good converter anyway. At least you know OEM will last.

I'm not really trying to bash any particular brand. They've gone out of business anyway. That's not really my point. Some converters are cheap for a reason (i.e. cheap parts). OEM converters on the other hand would be cheap, because they're mass produced.
