i had a slight rattle when i would start my car after a night of n2o passes... 6months later and not figuring out what happen i nailed it on the highway. and thats when she let go..3000rpm or so.... cracked all the way too the teeth and took the starter with it... i probably should of looked into the noise more but i didnt...

now have a nice TCI waiting on me to finish the motor

good thing your not injured id hate to see that come through the floor and slice your leg or foot. I had the flexplate almost brake in a complete circle, it had cracked like 320 degrees, luckily it gave me enough warning that i could get it fixed.

So what exactly happened? Did the outer piece totally separate from the inner piece?

the gear just peeled off the flexplate. every weld is broken, and there's nothing but the plate left.

thankfully i procrastinated my 4L80 swap and this happened first.

OMG! WOW! Thats unreal. Theres enough proof on here that its a good idea to can the stock flexplate. When the stall goes in, so will another flexplate! Wow!

Were you having any issues with starting your car previous to this? The reason I ask is the flex plate is still in one piece however the obvious happened. I'm curious is maybe the starter or the timing of your engine might have had something to do with this. Years ago I replaced many flex plates because the ring gear would be worn out in places. I'm thinking this might be the reason for what happened here. Just a thought. Vince

I think the 6800 rpms had something to do with it.

Wow, well at least nobody got hurt.

When I think flexplate failure, I think of cracks turning into a total melt-down, where the (inner) engine part breaks away from (outer) converter part. I always thought that was the reason the aftermarket flexplates were supposedly so much stronger... not because the ring gear was welded on better, but because the plate and its mounting points were thicker and meatier.

This is a great reason to start that 4L80E swap!!

mine had 3 cracks in it, my buddys had 3 cracks, and my other buddies had broken completely in half at idle.

3 of these cars being bolt on cars making 325 hp at best.

theyre garbage.
