Shift kit opinions?
Yea at first I wanted to go all out on the stall and go PT but I have no idea how loose its gonna be. Decided to go ss3600. I think it will be better for my street car with the 3.23s. Guess ill find out what I should have gotten after I try this one out. Hey live and learn right?
I'm wondering how much a shift kit would help the durability of the trans and if it's even worth it. I've seen some in the FS section go for $50-100, if it helps the trans put up with the strain of the stall I'd definitely put one in at the same time.

My dad is a mechanic and every chevy trans he builds gets a transgo kit because even the base kits help the functionality of the trans to make them last longer.
Don't shoot for tire chirping shifts with it, but it will help firm things up and make the trans work better.

thinking of stock/small converters. My preaching is over so let me respond to your original question. I have run my car with a converter for a couple of years with no shift kit. It was crap until I got the tune. My shift firmness returned and was better then stock. The trans feels like it knows what it wants to do and does it. Now, Im getting a trans built. I let the builder do what he wanted as thats what I'm paying him for (his experience). He said he would do an HD2 kit bc he likes them. He said "they really clean things up a lot inside" Now Im no trans builder (meaning I dont really know what the hell he meant) but his transmissions (4l60Es) last so Im gonna run with whatever he says. At first, Im going to run with the HD2 and the modified tune. If the shifts aren't right, I may back the pressures back down to stock and let the kit do all the work. We will see how it drives when I get it all together. It will be nice to experience both sides of the coin.

Dave told me the best all around converter for me would be ss3600 so I already ordered one. Its my first stall so I guess ill live and learn lol
Make sure and let us all know how the kit is. Im just run without a kit for now and maybe get one for future if needed. But iv heard its not needed with a good tune
I'm kind of on the fence about installing it myself, mainly because I'd be by myself with no help. If I get a shop to install it I'm going to have them go ahead and install a shift kit and kill two birds with one stone. I don't have enough trust in myself to install a shift kit, so instead of me taking the trans out for a convertor, putting it back together, and then taking it to a shop so they can rip it apart I'll probably just save time and have them do the whole thing.

Right now im gonna just run without the shift kit and later on if I want one ill figure it out later.
And I think you'll be happy with the 3600
