4l60E Flexplate Question

4l60E Flexplate Question Few quick questions for you guys (I've searched the net for the past hour with no success)...
I have a year 2002 4L60E and a year 2003 LS6 that I'm about to put together. I have a 168 tooth flexplate that came with my LS6 crate motor. I just mated the two and the flexplate is about 1/8 to 1/4 in from the bellhousing all the way around. Is this normal for a 168 tooth flexplate or should I go with a 153 tooth flexplate? I've noticed that summit only sells 168 tooth starters for the ls1/6. It appears the starter holes on the block are offset, which should be for a 168 tooth flexplate.
Also, is there supposed to be a thin piece of sheetmetal between the block and bellhousing to cover the open gaps?
Anyone know what's going on with this setup?

Here are some pics I found on the internet that will give a better perspective on "possibly" a piece of sheetmetal that goes between the trans and the engine block.
On mine (not pictured here), there is an open gap between the trans and block (behind the oil filter) which exposes the flywheel:
Looks like there is some kind of covering between the block and trans that's not attached to the starter:

there are plastic covers on both sides of the block to cover those gaps at the starter and by the oil filter........had to modify the starter side on mine when i put in a starter.....will put in a new one when i pull the tranny

Anyone have any input on 168 / 153 tooth flywheels? I've seen a few threads suggesting 153, but I'm still not sure if it's necessary to buy a new flexplate.

There is no 153 tooth flexplate for an LSx engine. They are all 168 tooth. Make sure that you have at least 1/8" (but no more than 3/16") converter to flexplate clearance once you bolt up the trans and you'll be good to go!
