Default 3000 or 3500 stall?

I've been reading A LOT of post and I'm kinda being scared out of getting the 3500 stall. I don't want it to kill my gas mileage since this is my only car. I REALLY want to get the 3500 though, I get about 260-280 miles per tank (yes, I drive slow) I've read the only way that I could make this better is to tune the PCM. But how much would that cost and where can I get it done?? Or should I just get a 3000 instead of the 3500?? for about 40 dollars more I can get the 3500, that's the only reason why I'm considering it. That and I want to kill all the Slobras that romp their engines at me when I pass by. I don't know if this would help either... My mods are MSDs 8.5, NGKs, Cut out, 3' Exhaust, SLP lid, K&N, and Free Ram Air. HELP ME DECIDE PLEASE...

Well Ill give you the same addvice everyone gave. "Pick the stall you want, then get the next size bigger!" and to let you know, i choose the 3500 but havent installed it yet. From what i have read, there is One guy on here that is always saying he only gets like 9 or 10 mpg now, but everyone else tells me they only lost a bout 3-5 mpg wich in my opinion is well worth it.

I would get the 3500. Remember once you hit about 40 mph, the TC will lock up like stock. And mileage will be about the same.

My 2 cents....... Get the 3500....... i have a 3600.... and i had a 2.73 which killed my gas milage cause there was such a lag but when i got my 3.73 i not only got alot more pull it tightend up the Stall and gas seems to have improved.... i race alot soo i really couldnt be accurate lol

just remember 9-12mpg city stoplight driving. If you can live with that, cool. I get good mpg on the freeway as long as im not on it.

don't forget transgo shift kit
tranny cooler (big as you can fit)
and tuning.

Since installing my TCI SF (3000/2.2) my gas mileage
has been a minimum of 16.4MPG logged over 15 tanks
and 3000+ miles, I log every fillup & service event.
I never burn a whole tank in stop-n-go though, there
is always some highway in there. 80MPH highway cruise
is 22-24MPG. My mixed-driving fillups are all in the
16.x - 17.x MPGs.

Funny thing, looking back before I had the SLP MAF,
Predator fiddling, and converter I was getting many
tanks coming in below 15MPH, since stock delivery.
In the 2000 miles preceding the TC swap though,
the minimum MPG was 16, a couple of 17s and
mostly 18s.

No way I lost more even 2MPG here, it's more
likely 1MPG. Learning to drive the looser TC for
economy and resisting the devil on your shoulder
might save you nickels and dimes.

i say go with the 3500 as well...thats what ive got...yes you will loose some mpg depending on your driving habits...i have less than a 2 mile drive to and from work and i go home for lunch so I go through some gas but if you do mainly highway driving youll loose very little remember once the converter locks its just like stock.

Get the 3500, you wont regret it. The gas mileage you lose is nothing, maybe 2mpg or a little more. But it mostly all depends on how heavy your foot is. Like stated above the converter will lock up around 40mph so if you stay out of the gas it is fine.

I don't really punch it all that much, IF EVER. I guess you can say I drive like old folks, Another question is if will it still shift normal when I get it?? And what's this I hear about it hitting the rev limiter WOT? I used to have this problem but I'm sure I didn't have a TC, It was that my 1st and 2nd gear clutches where burnt and the car wouldn't shift until the RPMS hit about 3000. It felt horrible, the RPMS would go up but the car wouldn't really move. Is this what it feels like to have the TC? Would getting a shift kit help firm up the shifts?? If ANYONE that has a 3500 TC could IM me and help me with any questions I got I'd appreciate it. BurntByTheSun21 (AIM) agentofoblivion24 (Yahoo mess.)

Great TC, good for 1.6 and even lower 60ft with practice. A bit loose with 2.73/3.23 but shines with the 3.73- besides N2O and headers, this is the best bang for the buck. Your car will feel like a whole new beast.

I've been running a 3500 stall for over 50K miles now. I get 26+ mpg, but admittedly I drive mostly highway, 2.73 gears also. Mine locks into OD at 50 mph, but will stay locked down to about 45 mph. I also tend to drive pretty sedately -most- of the time, especially around town (semi-loud exhaust). Performance wise, it kicks ***. I can destroy the tires at WOT from a standing start running 245/50 16s. Going WOT throttle at 45 mph it feels like a rocket kicked in. I can't speak to the stall/gear combo mentioned above as all I've ever had is 2.73s in this car. But surely even 3.23s would be tighter than what I'm running, even if only a little.

my overdrive kicks in at 1000rpm (30 in 3, 35'ish in 4) cause i spend alot of time at city speeds. My mpg still sucks ***.

It is a fun loud muscle car, thats exactly what you get. Those who use alot of street, will feel it, those who do alot of freeway will be the ones who dont tell you its loose. Cause they are locked up most of the time
