Default Built trans/stall install problems

I bought a transmission from a guy who told me it had an updated sprag, new pump, Beast sunshell, billett servo, 2 pack of clutches (not sure what that means), and a stage 2 trans go shift kit. I coupled that with a Dayco (only thing I could put my hands on locally) 2300-2800 10" converter.

I have worked on cars for quite a while so the simple things like fluid level and proper install techniques are taken care of.

My issue is that sometimes when I get on it the car wants to studder like traction control kicking in but I get no lights abs or otherwise. Also when cruising at higher speeds today I felt it kick out of 4th and go back into 3rd with lock up. It threw a check engine light but I cleared it by taking the battery cable off to see if it was mechanical or electrical.

When I got back in and got up to speed I had 4th and lock up for a mile or so then back to the same old thing. I could pull it out of D and into 3rd with the only result being a lock up disengage.

My car is COMPLETELY stock for the moment with the exception of a lid, filter, and flowmaster. Is this a tuning issue or a mechanical one?

Well the first thing to do is get it scanned so we know what code you got.

Oh, sorry. I had it scanned at Oreilly's but their scanner isn't all that great. When I took the battery cable off it "cleared" the code. They weren't able to pull a stored code out for me. I know I pulled a boner move here but I wanted to check if it was electrical vs mechanical at the time. Overzealous got the best of me.

I took it to a cruise in tonight and found out some more info...It turns out when I shut it off for a bit then drive it I have 4th and lock up again for about a mile. Then it goes away again with out poping on any lights.

Does this sound like something torque management deleting will fix?

It sounds like false codes being set due to the change in rpm drop down during a shift.
Codes that should be set to no report are P0751, P0757. The lower misfire numbers should be raised also.
And tcc duty cycle should be set to 98 min and max.

So what we're finding here is its a tuning issue more than a broken part issue?

Sorry for the noob questions. I've been a 6 speed person for years.

Yes, sounds like the common tuning problems when the stall speed is increased.

You need to get someone with HP tunners or EFI LIVE to log it. Then go into your torque mgmt tables.

Got it tuned today and its not any better My tuner told me I may have another issue with the engine misfiring so I'll look into that but the loosing of 4th is still there. Its werid. I have it for a bit then I don't. Have any of you guys ever heard of that happening at all?

Yes, When the car sets a code, it will take it out of lock up in fourth.
