Default Anyone using the new th400 JW Ultra Bell ls1 bellhousing?

There is a new part that has the bolt pattern for a ls, instead of sbc, or bbc. Wondering if anyone on here is actually running it, and any problems with fitment, or any modifications needed?

I know about the mods needed to run the normal jw ultra bell in a fbody, hoping the ls specific one is better.

I have one but the trans won't be in the car till next month. They told me on the phone it is a direct fit. bolts up just like a stock 4l60e did from the factory.

any reason to go with it over the one everyone else has used with a standard chevy bop to th400 unit aside from being able to use all the bolts?

also, anyone had any issued with cracking with the chevy bop ultra bell or the block from not being able to use all the bolt holes in the block?

my LS1 jw ultra bell has a machined out notch to clear the back of the engine block. I know on a standard SBC ultra bell you have to cut this out yourself and that would void all SFI ratings.

i never heard that before and wouldn't want to do that so i guess i'll spend the extra $53 per jegs pricing and get the one for an ls specific bell. thanks for that info!

I'm going to order mine this week also I can't believe their isn't more info around on these. Does anyone have any idea what to do about a lower flexplate dust shield or is no one really running one once they go to a 400

you can see the machined out area on the top to clear some years of LS blocks.

I've never seen anyone running a shield and I dont plan on using one. most th400 swapped cars dont street drive much if any. no reason anything would get up inside there.

I have the normal small block one and I just bought flat Allen head bolts to replace the 4 at the top of the rear cover that the ultra bell interfere with

I figured running without the shield wouldn't be a problem thanks for sharing the info and photos. Its nice to see what you're actually spending the extra $ on

Default jw bell

i have the same bell you are asking about..been in my car for awhile now, i have a glide hooked to it instead of a 400 but it was a direct bolt in, didnt have to change anything, but you still use one less bellhousing bolt.been launching off the tb @4500 with no issues

Not to go off topic here but what exactly is needed to make this new bellhousing fit on the Th400? I assume you'll need to take it to a machine shop and have them chop off the bell and drill and tap new hose on the front so that the new bell bolts up?

We did my buddies with a sawzall reciprocating saw lol. It uses long bolts that bolt thru the front pump of the trans into the case. U need an 8 bolt pump to fit the JW bell housing which most th400s are.

How do you know how much to cut off? I'm guess you just measure from the face to the rear of the JW bell housing and use that measurement to cut the old bell housing off?
