Default DD stall

what is the biggest stall that would be safe to run on a DD without tune?

Our 278mm is a nice stall for a DD. They don't typically need a tune....G/L

I never changed anything going from stock stall to Yank SS3600 other than deleting the solenoid codes because in rare cases on large low speed hills it would go into safe mode.

Yes many have, but your stall will feel more loose with those gears

A stall is nothing more than slippage vs. resistance. For example a 3000 stall with 3.23s' and changing the gears to 2.73s',that 3000 stall would feel like a 3500 stall, changing the gears to 3.73s',that 3000 stall would feel like a 2500 stall.
When I changed my stall from OEM 1800 to TCI 2800(OEM 3.23s'),it felt 'loose' but didn't take long to get used to. When I changed my OEM 3.23s' to 4.56s' that 2800 stall felt/feels as tight as the OEM 1800.

Whats the big deal about getting a tune? Your gonna want one anyway. Go no smaller than 3600.

the fact that im about to drop over 2 grand in a tranny kinda puts a hold on a tune for a while...

one more question too, ABOUT what rpm would it stall up to just pulling out on those 2.73's if i were to buy a 3500ish stall?

IDK about the 2.73s but it all depends on how much throttle you give it, You will see its not like some say. If I would have known my ss3600 was gonna be like this I would have went ss4000, pt4000 or somthing like those.

You should be fine untill you get a tune if you just take it easy untill then. You need to do a break in with the converter anyway. Well at least my yank had a 150 miles break in. After I broke mine in I tore **** up even a few weeks before my tune. It wasnt bouncing off the rev limiter or anything and made sure the fluid was correct.
