Then how does it sense 250 degrees and go into trans over temperature mode? I am pretty sure they have an internal sensor in the wiring harness that measures fluid temp. A temp gun will read surface temp of the pan, not so accurate. The fluid temp will start out around 80 degrees then climb as I drive. Depends how far I drive it it has gotten as high as 230. On a cool day its stays under 200 just depends how far I go.

Okay. Just trying to help. I chased this very issue for two months and did multiple things to find the problem before I found the gauge was not reading proper. Pulled the trans 5 times etc. Got a temp gun and it was reading 120 after a cruise and 140 on the converter.

I remember seeing your thread on the th400 problem you had with trans temps. I know my problem and am in the process of fixing it. Just need to relocate the cooler because its not getting any airflow through it. I will have it fixed soon.

Are you still running the th400 or a 80e? I put the car in the air this afternoon and started looking at how I am going to run the new lines. Also started looking things over and making sure all is well under the car since I haven't had it up since I finished the swap.

I gotcha. You are upgrading to a bigger turbo also, right? I might dump the procharger after this year and go turbo. The blower whine is annoying sometimes.

There is no particular "best year". I recommend any of the early models, they're significantly cheaper for cores, and they have a stronger OD unit as well. Early models are from 91-96.

Here is some eye candy. I have been driving it around here and there. I took the bogarts off the car since the front decided they wanted to crack on me and found some stock speedlines in great shape. Here is the sleeper look. Enjoy

I installed a larger trans cooler today and took it for a spin. Trans temps are staying around 180 when beating on it and driving it for about 45 minutes. I made several pulls and was able to see right around 11 to 12 psi. Man, this sucker is wicked. It will break the tires loose at 50 if you stomp it real hard. First gear is pointless, so I have shifted to second, then rolled into it and then shifted to third and stayed in it pretty hard a few times. It was a whole lot of fun. Its nice to finally get to beat on it a little bit and enjoy what I have been working so hard on for the last 11 months. I need to get a copilot so we can do some videos. I am sure I wont have any trouble finding one of those, lol.

Trans did great, no issues. I pulled the blower off the car and now am going gt91 turbo. Should have it back up by September or so.
