Cool thread, subscribing.

I wonder what shifter + cable would work in a non-stock application for this.

I am reusing the shifter that was used with the th400. Its a b&m pro stick with the 4 speed gate. Cable was used on the 400 along with the cable bracket to the trans and selector lever adapter. Just adjusted it and speced it correctly. The 4 speed gate was like 16 bucks.

I test drove it this morning, but not without my fair share of problems. First off I fired it and mph was reading 100 plus. I quickly realized that I had the vss and turbine speed sensor wired to the wrong pins. After that I went around the block and the car wouldn't shift and the speedo was reading about 90mph going 25mph. I think this was the reason for no shift because I could command the shift in hp tuners scanner and the car would shift. I worked on the vss ratio and think it will cure the shifting problem. Didn't have a chance to redrive it and see. Good news is I don't have any leaks and no major problems are apparent, just some small bugs.

With much help from slow67 ie the 4l80 God, the car is up and running and shifting automatically in drive. The motor and trans tunes are way off, trans shifts early and the car is popping and studdering, but the trans shifts on its own, it goes into overdrive and locks the converter up, all on its own. I have a lot of work to do on the tunes, but I am so happy to have this thing driving. I love it. I drove probably 10 miles this evening checked fluid level, no leaks. Pics tomorrow of all the past progress.

Slow67 is good but someone got him started

Good progress. It's hard to beat a properly setup 4L80E.

Ok, he is Jesus you are the 4l80 God, lol. I have learned a lot from you and him and will continue to learn more. I am just glad there isn't anything wrong with the trans or my wiring. Its feels really good to get this thing up and running. Been working on the swap since August.

I never said what causing my no shifting problem, lol. I got the speedo scaled correctly and I had the dtc's for trans set to no error reporting. I am told that it will cause the trans not to shift.

I miss having a 6 speed car, but knew that there would be no way it would live behind this motor. It had a 400 with a reverse manual vb and that was stupid to drive. This is nice to put in drive and just go.

Here are some of the wiring.

No videos yet. Having some fueling issues in boost enrichment that I am working on. Fouled a set of plug trying to fire it yesterday so a new set to go in tomorrow. Also trying to get my fast wideband to work in hp tuners to aid in the tuning process.

I envy you guys that have garages. I don't have one and my driveway is slanted enough to not allow you to work on jack stands. So I have to work in the street = FTL.

Looks good!

I do a lot of work out of my garage. Lots of side jobs and other things. I could not live without it.

Put another 25 miles on the car on Sunday. Getting the shift speeds dialed in and working on converter locking and unlocking speeds. The motor tune is also coming in line. I am slowly taking fuel away and adding timing. I made a few short pulls on the freeway yesterday and its starting to come around. Just gonna take a bunch of time and driving to get it where I want it. All in all I must say that I am very happy with my results. I think I have a total of around $1300 or so in the complete swap. When its in OD and converter locked this thing cruises at around 2300rpms at 65mph. With the th400 it was 3500rpms at 65mph and watching the gas gauge go down. Anyone that does a th400 and drives it at all on the street is just plain lazy and taking the easy way out. The 4l80e is far superior and get you the best of both worlds. The swap is some what of a challenge although not extremely hard. I will update with some videos and pics of the clean car soon. Josh

Videos please!

I remember the first time I saw the FS thread for your car, was annoyed that the guy put a th400 in it. Felt like it killed it for me. I also seem to recall not liking his race fuel system setup, had the loud *** aeromotive on it didn't it? And a smaller tank? Or something like that? Did you keep those or get rid of them?

Ha, lol. Yes thats all gone in favor of a stock tank with twin walbro 255's. I did that while I was doing the 80 swap. I mentioned in earlier in this thread. The th400 killed it for me as well. It took about 50 miles of less and I was done. Next will be wheels. I want a stock set of speedlines. I think it was be cool as hell to have a car making 700 plus hp with the stock wheels on it. I still wanna keep the bogarts, but want the speedlines to drive around on. Gotta talk the wife into letting me buy some.

I think the part I like best is that you are changing everything on the car the same way I would have done it lol. Makes me all happy and ****

Man, 700+? Lol you have a forged 408 and an F-1A, we better see some high 800 to low 900 numbers out of that bad bitch. Does it have methanol or no?
