Default Do I want/need a higher stall converter?

I will be putting a new engine in my 2000 Silverado soon. L33 with LS6 cam, truck intake, headers. It will be sitting on 37" tires with 4.88 gears. I barely ever use the truck, mostly to haul my sleds in the winter or for the occasional trip to Home Depot. I want to be able to haul a vehicle if I have to. What do you recommend for a converter?

With an ls6 cam I would think no. Could the truck benefit from it, yes. It would make it faster out of the hole, but with the big tires it doesn't seem like you will be doing any racing with it anyway.

4.88 gears? wow. I wouldn't go too big if you plan on using it tow. Maybe a 2800 rpm stall.

whatever you get make sure it isnt too loose since itll probably be a PITA if youre towing.

Agreed with the towing comments. I'd call some of the converter makers and pick their brain.

Stock converters are fairly tight to begin with. A very nice, efficient and well built converter that stalls somewhere between 2,800 and 3,200 will give you years of reliability and performance. The key is an efficient converter as a loose converter will tend to build heat when it is not locked up... and towing can aggravate the issue.

We have a lot of guys use our 278mm options and still tow just fine. I do suggest adding an aux cooler to keep the temps down, cheap insurance.
