Default Choosing a converter

I'm looking for a converter for a dd LS1 Camaro with 4L60E that has 4.10 gears and LT headers. The car will have something like a 228r cam installed soon and i'm not quite sure what converter to use. I don't plan on going to the track much so i don't feel that i need a ridiculous converter. I have been looking at circle d's 278mm converter, yanks stealth 3000 and TCI's 3000. I also am wondering about tightness and looseness of the converter. I wouldn't mind to have something a little bit loose. I want it to feel somewhat different than the stock converter. Any input would be great. Thanks.

stay away from TCI. i will also recommend FTI. and i think a converter in the stall range of 3200-3600 would suit you fine!

How many have you broken? My cousin has taken his TCI SSF to well over 100 passes behind a full weight 404 stroker TA.

I'm not saying it's the best converter made as the Circle D, Yank and FTI stuff is where it's at BUT it's one of the best bang for the buck converters out there. I actually have the Circle D 278mm in my SSS and while it's a great converter it's not in the same class as the TCI SSF.

I actually have 3 friends that have broken a TCI, and 2 of them took the trans with it. one was in a mud bogger, the other 1 was in a S10 V8 that ran 10's for nearly a year on it, and the third was a mid 12 sec T/A that lasted 3 months and about 6 track days. all installs were professional and all came out to be failed TCI converters. not all the products they make are bad, but they don't have the best reputation.

Which converters were those? The lower end TCI stuff (below the Street Fighter) I would not suggest to anyone but the Street Fighter and Super Street Fighter can be a great bang for the buck converter.

I have been looking and i think i might end up going with the Circle D 4c 3600 stall. Anybody running this converter with 4.10 gears? I have heard that it will feel almost stock?

4.10s are a bit much in an auto. I had them in my B4C and highway speeds sucked. Not to mention it turned too many rpms in the 1/4 with a 26" tire. 3.73s are the sweet spot IMO. That converter will drive great with either gears.

The Circle D 4C would be an ideal match for the 228R cam and feel like stock with 4.10 gears. I have a few racing buddy that run that combo in their DD and love it. One of them has 3.23 gears and the other 2 have 3.73s. You can't go wrong with the 4C with your set up. You will love it!
