Default RevMax To lock up or not to lock up?

I have a rev max level 5 3200 stall in a 2000 trans am...Are you guys locking up the converters under full power? I talked to rev max and he told me that it would prematurely wear the converter. I'm definatly new to this converter thing but what are you guys doing? I thought they where ment to take the abuse, that's why it is a Level 5, but I guess not. What do ya'll think?

not familiar with revmax converters , i Lock my YAnk at WOT and no issues, even thought Yank doesn't recommend it..

- as long as the internals are reinforced, they will take the beating..

Unless it is built with the company knowing you have intentions of doing this, no way. Even then the gains are so minimal I probably still wouldn't do it.

Can it be done, yes... Should it be done, well not really. Will it hurt anything by doing it, not right away, but the clutch surface will absolutely wear faster. Ourselves, Yank and pretty much all the other good knowledgeable converter companies would strongly advise against it. Especially when you see with our testing how little you gain, it simply is not worth it......

Where can I see the testing? That is a very good point about the clutch material...Didn't really think about that.

The reason I ask is I would not recommend locking a single disc converter at WOT. Now with a multi disc you can get away with it but like anything else sooner or later.........

Leeroy some guys will do this for a number of reasons. Inefficiency is probably to main reason in a performance application. By doing this guys at WOT can get a better ET, MPH, and dyno numbers if the converter is not efficient. Its been a debate for years on the harm it can cause the torque converter clutch or the transmission. IMO its your money and how you treat your hardware will determine how long its going to last. Some of the manufactures of these converters seem to be more efficient than others. I guess it all depends on the builder. HTH Vince

Yea, I think mine is a little inefficient on the big end...I really don't know alot about these, but that was one of the first things that my new tuner noticed when we made a street pull in Mexico.
